Kid Cudi got married and no one noticed With ERL's head designer, no less
Maybe it’s because, with all the Bezos-Sánchez wedding scandal, the internet crowd has already had enough “wedding talk” to last all of 2025. And yet, privately but not secretly, last June 28th, American rapper Kid Cudi and Lola Abecassis Sartoremet, head designer at ERL, got married in the south of France. A love story born right within the fashion system, as the two met in 2018 during Virgil Abloh’s debut show as creative director of Louis Vuitton. At the time, Abecassis Sartoremet was working backstage as a designer and Cudi was walking the runway as a model, as the couple told Vogue Weddings. Virgil wasn’t just present in their memories: the couple chose to pay tribute to the late designer and artist with an inflatable castle, just like the one Abloh created for Louis Vuitton’s SS20 show, and danced their first dance to the sound of the band BadBadNotGood—the same artists who performed at the fateful show where it all began.
With a bride leading one of the most viral brands of recent years and a groom who defined the rap scene of the 2000s, the wedding wardrobe could only be impeccable. For his looks, Kid Cudi shared that he entrusted Anthony Vaccarello and the Saint Laurent team, wearing three distinct outfits for the ceremony, dinner, and after-party. Abecassis Sartoremet, on the other hand, chose her best man and former Vuitton colleague, Alain Paul, LVMH Prize 2025 finalist and ANDAM Prize runner-up this year. However, Lola and Alain’s collaboration was anything but formal: as the bride herself shared, her desire was to create a dress that reflected the French designer’s powerful and timeless vision, blending contemporary flair and classicism with a personal twist. It was Paul who suggested using lace as the main element, but avoiding the most obvious path, and together they envisioned a dress built like a collage of different laces, as if it were the result of years of searching through vintage markets.

After rented cities, countless celebrities mobbed on social media, and weddings turned into media spectacles, the one between Kid Cudi and Lola Abecassis Sartoremet reminded even the most cynical that love within the fashion system still exists. It was also heartening to see how Kid Cudi, after his stormy split from Kanye West (longtime friend and former collaborator) and a gradual step back from the spotlight, found his own balance. A balance that feels both personal and creative, as just days after the wedding, the rapper released the first single from his new album, FREE, set for release at the end of August. And perhaps, among all the details and symbols that made this story special, what strikes most is seeing how Virgil Abloh’s legacy continues to live on, even though nearly four years have passed since his death. Not only as a streetwear visionary or artist able to break down barriers in what is considered one of the world’s most exclusive industries, but now also as an unlikely matchmaker.
