The Nike Air Zoom covered in Swarowski crystals
Designed for Naomi Osaka on the occasion of the Roland Garros
May 28th, 2021
Swarovski has collaborated with Nike for the launch of a sneaker co-signed by women's tennis champion Naomi Osaka, on the occasion of Roland Garros, inaugurated on May 24th. The result is a new silhouette renamed NikeCourt Air Zoom GP Turbo Naomi Osaka with an upper embellished with Swarovski crystals. The unique fusion of performance-driven construction and preciousness of materials wants to represent a turning point for Swarowski, a brand in dialogue with fashion for years but which has recently started a more stable relationship with the streetwear and lifestyle world – in particular collaborating on various Nike and adidas sneakers decorated by its famous crystals.
To decorate the upper of the sneaker, thousands of double-pointed chatons by Swarovski Crystal Fine Rocks were used, applied to the Swoosh and heel of the shoe. The crystals were applied to a gradient tye-dye upper in amethyst and black tones. Commenting on the release, Naomi Osaka called this sneaker mode «an unexpected luxury that anyone can wear».
