Unseen footage and insights: that's why it's a must-watch

We needed a documentary series about David Beckham Unseen footage and insights: that's why it's a must-watch

We are now accustomed to witnessing the release of docuseries that narrate stories or personalities from the world of football: a dramatic way to experience the sport that not everyone seems to react to with excitement - in fact, skepticism often prevails. Amazon Prime Video delighted us with the now-famous sports docuseries 'All or Nothing,' telling the seasons of Manchester City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Brazil, Germany, and Juventus coached by Pirlo, whose clips have become overused memes. Netflix's products, including the iconic 'Sunderland Til' I Die' and the more recent 'FIFA: All the Revelations,' seem to be more diverse and slightly more appreciated. To these latter two, Beckham has just been added, a product that analyzes not only David's career but also his personality from every angle and the impact his image has had on entertainment; after all, everyone knows that David Beckham is a star, but not everyone has tried to empathize with how the English talent experienced the explosion of his fame.

The difficulties of David Beckham's career

The docuseries directed by Fisher Stevens delves very well into all the episodes that contributed to making Beckham the icon he has been and still is today. In the four episodes, it discusses the highs and lows that served as the backdrop to his journey. For the first time, Beckham opens up to the public, addressing sensitive topics such as the illness he suffers from, obsessive-compulsive disorder, in addition to the depression he faced after the match against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup, a sporting event that made him one of the most targeted men in the United Kingdom. Fisher Stevens' incredible story of Beckham sheds light on the entire football world, transcending the 90 minutes of the game.

The uniqueness of David Beckham

While the series examines the pressures on David Beckham in his role as a footballer, it also highlights what made him unique and extremely vulnerable. His relationship with Victoria Adams, a former member of the Spice Girls, hinted from the beginning that his life would be like a movie, in the truest sense of the word, with the spotlight constantly shining on him. From rendezvousing in the most secluded places to escape the paparazzi's flashes with Victoria, to appearances in internationally renowned magazines and starring in the most famous and entertaining advertising campaigns, like this one by Pepsi, to the affirmation of his metrosexual lifestyle with extravagant and never-before-worn outfits for a footballer. His story deserves to be analyzed right up to the present day, with David Beckham as an entrepreneur still with a bright career on the horizon.
