Historical Florentine football lands on Netflix It will be the theme of the first episode of the ''Home Game'' series

After the recent wave of sports documentaries that entertained us during the lockdown, here is one that deals with sport-related themes that may still intrigue us: ''Home Game'' tells of eight sports - of which you have probably not heard of - that they come from different areas of the world and the intent is to tell the stories of the "athletes" who have chosen to practice them.

One of these, for us Italians not totally unknown, is the historical Florentine football which will be the central theme of the first episode: sport dating back to the 16th century, it is a violent mix of rugby, MMA and football but with a traditional value difficult to understand for those who are not from Florence. Two teams consisting of 27 players each must score in the nets that are on the short sides of the pitch, but what happens close to the midfield is something complicated to explain and above all to moderate.

In ''Home Game'' we will also talk about the Catch Fétiche of the Congo - a kind of amateur wrestling mixed with voodoo rituals and ancient spiritual beliefs - or the apnea competitions of the Philippines, The Highland Games, Roller Derby and Pehlwani, Indian wrestling.

Each episode of the series will also have its own distinctive style, immersing viewers in the culture that surrounds each sport. They will be episodes of half an hour each, but it will be enough to be able to understand the dynamics that surround every culture and every discipline. Accompanied by Mark Strong's narrative voice, the ''Home Game'' series will be available tomorrow.
