For decades, the name BIRKENSTOCK has conjured up images of beaches, summer moments, and bare feet. The anatomical footbed, open silhouette, and minimalist aesthetic made the brand synonymous with comfort and the outdoors. Today, that perception is changing. With the new Moc Toe line, the company transfers its comfort expertise into a range of closed and semi-closed shoes designed to accompany the return to the office and the cold-weather wardrobe, proving that authentic comfort knows no seasons.
The starting point is an age-old construction detail: the raised U-shaped moc-toe stitching, born from the workwear tradition of the early twentieth century. That construction, originally designed to provide flexibility and toe room in work environments, is now reinterpreted through the BIRKENSTOCK lens. More than a matter of style, this is a coherent extension of the brand's philosophy: bringing "walking as nature intended" to closed-toe shoes as well, while maintaining the same attention to foot biomechanics.
Three unisex silhouettes embody this evolution. The Naples Wrapped represents the most refined hybrid: a semi-open sabot-moccasin with a fully wrapped cork and latex footbed, a crossband reminiscent of the penny loafer, and a flexible EVA sole. The Utti Lace shifts the focus to sculptural softness: an adjustable moc-toe upper with discreet lacing and no metal eyelets, inspired by the traditional moccasin that wraps around the foot, and a lightweight rubber sole. The Highwood Moc, finally, is the boldest and most urban expression: a closed shoe with metal eyelets, a comfortable and stable chunky sole, designed to tackle different surfaces throughout the year.
All three models share the moc-toe construction, crafted in the brand's signature soft suede leather and offered in new colorways such as Cork Brown, Carafe and Charcoal. The result is a family of footwear that retains BIRKENSTOCK's recognizable identity while adapting to professional settings and colder seasons. Even in the closed versions, footbed technology remains central. While the Naples Wrapped uses the classic cork and latex footbed, the Utti Lace and Highwood Moc feature the Deep Blue Footbed — a microfiber layer that manages moisture and temperature, a jute weave that reinforces the structure, and an anatomical cork-EVA stabilizing element.
