In Hollywood, there are heartthrob actors, cult actors, and then there’s Timothée Chalamet, who continues to surprise audiences and fans with his unconventional choices. The Franco-American actor deserves credit for bringing back the fun to red carpet fashion, which in recent years had been lost to the “serve” moments of Zendaya and other stars trying to match her glamour. During the press tour for Dune, Chalamet and the star of Challengers graced red carpets worldwide, showcasing outfits aligned with the film’s aesthetic and 2024 trends: satin suits, neutral tones, and cyberpunk-inspired metallic accents. In 2025, however, the actor, who rose to fame with Call Me By Your Name, gave free rein to his artistic-comedic side during the press tour for A Complete Unknown, a Bob Dylan biopic soon to be released in Italian theaters. At the London premiere, Chalamet arrived on an electric bike, sparking a flood of memes online, while a few days later, he was spotted in Paris signing autographs with a mini Chanel crossbody bag - a brand he represents - paired with a bomber jacket and baggy jeans. It would have been a daring choice for anyone else, but for Timothée Chalamet, it worked.

The looks the actor is choosing to promote his latest film are anything but random, even if they sometimes make the most conservative fashion enthusiasts raise their eyebrows. Again in Paris, Chalamet caused a stir by wearing a faded pink 4FSB baseball cap and a matching Bibi Star belt styled as a scarf over a leather jacket from the latest Chanel SS25 collection. In short, the only style rule the star seems to follow this year is the unexpected, even when it comes to gala events: at the Golden Globes in early January, he gave an exclusive preview of Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann, a designer and close friend of Chalamet who is set to debut as the brand’s creative director after Peter Hawkings’ departure. Here, as at the New York premiere of A Complete Unknown, where the actor appeared in a kind of blonde Bob Dylan cosplay reminiscent of the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, Chalamet paid homage to the singer-songwriter with a subtle polka-dot tie loosely draped around his neck. After all, a bit of irony never hurts on a Tom Ford-Ackermann suit.

Beyond the memes and direct references to Dylan, looking at the latest men’s fashion shows, it could be said that Chalamet is setting trends that will dominate 2025. On one hand, there’s the vintage aesthetic of the early 2000s, exemplified by the actor with post-ironic baseball caps, faded jeans, and studded belts; on the other, the tendency to add a touch of funk to classic looks: just as Prada paired cowboy boots with orange floral accents and vinyl coats, Chalamet opted for Barbie-pink accessories and a glossy leather blazer; and just as Giorgio Armani wrapped total gray looks with skinny scarves and foulards, Chalamet did the same with a brown blazer and a silk scarf. This Milan Fashion Week, the rigor of monochrome, pinstriped suits, and technical sportswear was complemented by delicate and charming accessories, a trend that, as previewed by Chalamet’s viral Chanel mini bag, is poised to grow in men’s fashion throughout 2025. If the actor’s red carpet looks around the world are saying anything, it’s that the 2005 wardrobe is ready to return, with fur-lined parkas, tiny accessories, cigarette pants, and faded denim. Let’s just hope studded wristbands don’t make a comeback.
