Will a woman take Chanel's reins?

Word gets around and two are the suspected substitutes for Karl Lagerfeld

Will a woman take Chanel's reins? Word gets around and two are the suspected substitutes for Karl Lagerfeld

In a period of time where the fashion world changes at the speed of light, everything can happen and the "always and forever" doesn't exist any longer, we're expecting a revolution even from someone who, for the last century, has been leaving a mark in this industry thanks to its style, art, and aesthethics, with strenght, symbolism and strictness: Chanel

Everyday a new leak, the 'maybes' become the new 'get ready, something's about to happen', well, even in Karl Lagerfeld's maison there have been rumors. In the last few years many people have started to wonder who could succeed to the Kaiser of Fashion, especially since his beard got whiter and his health had rise and fall. Someone made the name of Virginie Viard, director of Chanel studio, who during the SS19 show walked the runway along with Lagerfeld for the final bow.

In the last few days, though, the focus has shifted to the most discussed woman of the year: Phoebe Philo, former creative director of Céline (when it still had the accent). After all, it wouldn't be so crazy, born in Paris (now based in London), her avant-guard, classic and elegant touch would perfectly suit Chanel, mixing British minimalism with French effortless chic style. Philo, always in her black turtleneck and black blazer (a dress-code very similar to Karl's, not a coincidence), could be the new queen of Chanel even according to many experts. Last April The Daily Front Row asked a few of the most famous Hollywood celebs who could have succeed at Chanel: stylist Law Roach mentioned Phoebe, just like the fashion policeman Brad Goreski. To increase the rumors, today BoF has published an article reporting the word of Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel fashion:

“I hear the rumors [about Philo] and all that, and I find that quite funny,” he said. “But it’s nothing serious.”

While the rumors keep circulating, the headquarter of Chanel has moved to London, which as stated it's just a "business move" but, for the most mischievous, it's a real change for the company, that could coincide with the will to get closer to the city of whom is about to become the new chief. FYI: one of the reasons that allegedly made Phoebe decide to leave Céline was the difficulty to travel everytime from London (where she lives with her family) to Paris (where the core business of the brand is based).

Anyway, right now we don't have definite news, just leaks, nonetheless, what is common in all these rumors is that a woman could soon arrive at Chanel. Exactly as it was at the very beginning...
