The jerseys worn by Messi in the World Cup go up for auction Including the one from the final in Lusail

One year after the start of the 2022 World Cup, all six jerseys worn by Lionel Messi during the competition matches will be auctioned. The auction will be organized by Sotheby's, which estimates a total amount of $10 million; if the sale reaches the desired amount, it would become the most expensive sports memorabilia collection ever in the history of auctions. The auction will create a head-to-head between Maradona and Messi: Diego's jersey worn during the Hand of God episode was auctioned for a sum of $9.3 in May 2022, and Messi has the opportunity to surpass that amount, even though it involves six different items. The main uniqueness lies in the fact that the jerseys for sale are exclusively in the home version, considering that the Albiceleste National Team, during the World Cup, wore the purple away jersey only once, which has not been included in the selection.

We can imagine that the prices of the jerseys will logically vary based on the prestige of the matches in which they were worn. The one from the final played against France, a match in which La Pulga scored a brace, could reach a sum higher than the combined total of the other five. A portion of the auction proceeds will be donated to the UNICAS project, managed by Sant Joan de Déu (SJD) Barcelona Children’s Hospital with the support of the Leo Messi Foundation, aiming to assist children affected by rare diseases. The auction will commence on November 30 and conclude on December 14, so if you are interested in making a bid, you can visit the Sotheby's website.
