Borussia Dortmund new visual identity Inspired by the angle of Die Gelbe Wand, BVB's yellow wall

Borussia Dortmund, one of the most popular and well-known clubs in Europe, has unveiled its new visual identity, designed by graphic design studio DesignStudio. A redesign that is already making its presence felt on the German club's website and social channels through a new typeface, and will soon have an impact on all aspects of communication and perhaps even the jerseys. DesingStudio's case study also features two renderings of jerseys that show what the future of yellow and black jerseys will look like. While the primary colour palette retains the iconic black and yellow that BVB is famous for, it introduces a new, broader palette of neon and grey tones inspired by the colours of the stadium, the old BVB jerseys and the city. In addition, Dortmund's industrial landscape inspired a new range of textures that are used in official communication as well as on the new fan merchandise.

The extraordinary involvement of the fans is the driving force behind Borussia Dortmund, a feeling that is defined as Echte Liebe or Genuine Love and from which the entire redesign process emanated. For the graphic designers, the challenge was to combine the old and new worlds of football to evolve the BVB brand in a way that makes it more current, attractive and relevant to current and new fans. The choice therefore fell on one of BVB's most iconic elements, the Yellow Wall, which underlines the collective strength and sense of community that is deeply rooted in the club's roots. The 34° angle of the Signal Iduna Park's standing-room grandstand served as a target for the entire design, from the logo to the movement and finally for the design of the new typeface in collaboration with Blaze Type.
