How does La Liga sponsor a Welsh club? The team with the longest name in the world will wear the Spanish league logo on its shirts

"Welcome to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllllantysiliogogogoch", reads the sign outside the sports centre of the Welsh fifth division club better known as 'Llanfairpwll'. The sign, reminiscent of those at the entrances to mountain and provincial towns, is nothing more than a formalisation of a curious partnership the North Wales Coast West League club has entered into with La Liga. It is unclear why the Spanish league has joined forces with the team from Anglesey in north-west Wales. It is probably just a marketing initiative to support a team that has become known for its name, which seems to come from the walk of a cat on a computer keyboard.

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllllantysiliogogogoch has PUMA sponsorship in common with La Liga, which would explain the Spanish league's initiative, which will see its logo on the club's shirts for a year. The partnership falls in the 125th anniversary year of the team and the first jersey will make its debut in the next match against Holyhead Town. On the sign welcoming the club to the sports centre, of the 58 letters that make up the name, all eleven Ls are replaced with the La Liga logo, the challenge now being to try to write the name without copying and pasting.
