A Ugandan team copied Arsenal Copying is the sincerest of flatteries

They say that copying is the sincerest of flattery, and football jerseys apparently it is not immune. This time it's Arsenal FC's turn, whose first jersey this season was inspired by a Ugandan Premier League team, the Wakiso Giants FC. The Gunners' jersey is purple, but all the details remain identical to those of adidas, from the gold three stripes on the shoulders to the white sleeves. The positioning of the logos is also the same, including the crest, which is very reminiscent of Arsenal's historic cannon crest with its shield shape.

This is not the first time that a team from a nation that is not exactly at the centre of international football has used a template already seen on the shirts of a major European club. That's what happened a few months ago with Venezia FC, whose 2022/23 away kit served as inspiration for FC Tulsa's jersey. But there are countless more or less successful copies that enhance the impact of a football jersey even on continents where that club would hardly play.
