The 10 best camouflage jerseys

An iconic pattern capable of contaminating both fashion and soccer

The 10 best camouflage jerseys An iconic pattern capable of contaminating both fashion and soccer

For years, the military wardrobe has been a source of inspiration for the world's leading designers, from Raf Simons to Demna Gvasalia, passing through Virgil Abloh, up to sacred monsters such as Martin Margiela and Helmut Lang. But in particular there is a pattern that belongs to the military wardrobe and that has been able to enter and contaminate every possible field: camouflage. There were years in which in soccer camouflage was a real trend just like architecture or the choice of iridescent colors, while now they have ended up a bit 'in oblivion, the last one at least in Italy, dates back to the 2019 - 20 season, when adidas and Juventus launched the third kit in unity blue with the pattern tone on tone. Also in Italy, the first experiments with the camo pattern date back to the 2013 - 14 season, when Macron for Napoli made both the second and fourth jerseys with the camo pattern.

The word camouflage, which translated means "to hide," first appeared in the 1600s, when William Shakespeare used it in Macbeth to refer to the camouflage of soldiers. The pattern was then adopted in fashion in the '20s but it was after the Second World War that camo was adopted by pacifist protesters who used it as a protest garment. It wasn't until the 1970s that the pattern began to be accepted for what it really was: a genuine and original design. There is a brand that has built its aesthetic around this pattern, we are obviously talking about A BATHING APE. In fact, it is impossible to imagine BAPE®︎ without its pattern, that camouflage pattern also known as "Cloud Camo" characterized by the face of a monkey often hidden among its shades of color. A pattern that has undergone many evolutions in the history of the brand, passing from the tiger version to the snakeskin one up to the Space Camo decorated with stars in 2015. If in soccer it has been partly set aside, in fashion it is always current, recently in one of his last listening parties, Kanye West, wore cargo pants. Impossible not to mention also one of Raf Simons' most famous creations, the Riot Riot Camo Bomber Jacket, which despite being from 2001 still remains one of the most sought after garments in online marketplaces.

Before landing in European soccer, the military style first arrived overseas in the NBA and in field hockey and baseball fields, where it is very popular. From the Spurs to the Mets in America, many teams have adapted their kits with the military fantasy on Memorial Day. In the NBA the pioneers were the Toronto Raptors, with a uniform that took exactly the colors of the uniforms of American soldiers.

In the new jerseys of this year, the only team that has adopted the camouflage pattern was Leicester, in the home kit produced by adidas, re-proposing it after two years of absence from the European playing fields. Now that this trend has been slightly set aside we decided to collect the best camouflage kits that have followed in Italy and beyond.
