Why does the new Bahia kit have oil stains?
The initiative has to do with a brazilian environmental disaster
October 21st, 2019
In the last weeks Brazilian officials are investigating the source of a vast oil spill that has hit dozens of beaches along the country's north-eastern coast. In order to raise awareness about this issue, the Esporte Club Bahia – always caring about this kind of issues – have presented a special kit for the occasion, that will be used in tomorrow's home match against Ceará.
The jersey has the same design as the current one, presenting in addition some eye-catching oil stains that cover large part of the shirt. But the initiative is not only aimed at raising awareness on the matter: Bahia announced that these shirts will be auctioned off and the revenue will be used to help clean the beaches.
Bahia also published a statement on the club's official website, claiming the importance of reflecting on the issue:
"The problem is yours, the problem is ours. Who did this damage? Who will be punished for such irresponsibility? Bahia is you, it's us and every human being. […] A call to reflect: what brings a man to destroy ‘sacred spaces’? […] Barbarity should be treated as such, not as something natural”
