The final days of the season are always a good time to take stock of the situation and make some balances, even financial ones. In fact, this year Brand Finance drew up the report about the 50 most valuable football brands in the world, with surprises (a few), confirmations (many) and interesting data to think about. One above all is the most evident and incontrovertible: European football is dominated by the Premier League, that has the highest number of clubs in the top 10 of the most valuable sports brands in the world.

At the number one, in fact, there’s a club from the English league: Manchester United. The Red Devils confirmed themselves as the most valuable football brand in the world, with 1,9 billion dollars, 9% more than last season. The rest of the podium also remained untouched, with Real Madrid that kept the second spot ($1,6B) and Barcelona the third ($1,5B), both increasing the value from the 2016/17 season. The fourth place of the ranking changes, as Bayern Munich - the only German team in the top 10 with an overall value of $1,4B - takes Chelsea’s place, that is now down to 7th.

We have to notice the two highest growth percentages of the lot, Manchester City’s +30% with a total value of $1,3B (5th) and Liverpool’s, that recorded a +33% than last season, bringing the brand value to 1,2 billion dollars, a figure that is destined to grow thanks to the great performances in this year’s Champions League. To close the top 10 there are Arsenal ($1B), Paris Saint-Germain ($913M), and Tottenham ($764M), confirming Premier League’s absolute dominion with six clubs in the first ten of the world, with as much as 17 clubs - so basically the entire league - in the first fifty.

How about Italy? To be honest, Juventus places itself just above the top 10, occupying the 11th position with $605M total brand value, still deeply behind the top clubs. But the Bianconeri have a great ‘Brand Strength Index’ (88,9) and they’re 8th in that ranking. There is also good news for Inter Milan that even if it stops its ‘brand value’ to $475M (13th) has the second-best value growth with +119%, just behind Leipzig's +140%. Then, there are AC Milan (17th with 315M), Roma (24th with 264M), followed by Napoli and Lazio, respectively at the 31st and 38th place. A huge merit note to Atalanta, a new entry in the ranking, that places itself at the 43rd spot with a brand value of $130M.
