David Bowie Is exhibition @ Mambo, Bologna

David Bowie Is comes to Italy. From July 14 to November 13, 2016, the Mambo in Bologna will host the first international retrospective dedicated to the extraordinary British artist.

The exhibition, organised by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and curated by Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh, is a journey through the life and career of the Thin White Duke, with over 300 objects, from the original hand written texts of his songs to Brian Duffy's photographs, from Ziggy Stardust’s outfit designed by Freddie Burretti to the video in which David says that as a boy he filled his pockets with books "too difficult to read" in order to impress people.

There are three main thematic sections. The first introduces the figure of the singer, his life and early career in ‘60s London, to the success of Space Oddity in 1966. The second part reveals the creative process and his different sources of inspiration, while the last is about his big live concerts.

Among the digital and analog contents there are pieces never seen before from the archives of Bowie staff: covers, original costumes, live performances, tours furniture.

David Bowie Is outlines the contours of a legendary, unique man, who in five decades has continuously transformed himself, contaminating art, design, theatre, music and pop culture. Definitely one of the unmissable events of this Italian Summer.
