“Wish You Were Here” turns 50 Sony Music has released a special edition of the visionary album

Wish You Were Here, one of the most emotionally layered albums in the history of the Pink Floyd and of music itself, returns on December 12 in a special reissue. This is not a simple revival, but an immersive experience celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of a record that, despite the passing decades, continues to speak the language of absence and vulnerability toward the music industry. The reissue includes a new Dolby Atmos mix by James Guthrie, six previously unreleased tracks (featured on the 2CD and 3LP, both in the single editions and in the box set), and the 16 recordings from Mike Millard's bootleg, available exclusively on the single Blu-ray or the Blu-ray included in the box set.

Listening again to tracks like Shine On You Crazy Diamond in this new sonic universe means letting every detail flow through you: the rubbing of glasses, the interlaced guitars, that cosmic melancholy carrying the spirit of Syd Barrett, to whom the piece is dedicated. In Have a Cigar, the unpredictable voice of Roy Harper returns, delivering the legendary and most iconic question in rock history: «Oh, by the way, which one’s Pink?»

The digital edition digs even deeper into memory with Waters’ home demos, previously unreleased versions of Wish You Were Here and Welcome to the Machine, and for the first time a complete Shine On, from part 1 to part 9, stitched together into a single progression. To mark the 50th anniversary of its publication, special pop-up stores are opening around the world. In London, Barcelona, Los Angeles, and Paris, they will be created in collaboration with News & Coffee Studio. Temporary stores will also open in Berlin and Milan.

Milan will have its dedicated space at Ripa di Porta Ticinese 47, open from December 11 to 14, with evening access on the first day and extended hours over the weekend (11:00 AM – 11:00 PM). In addition to the new editions – 3LP, 1LP, 2CD, Blu-ray, and the deluxe box set – it will be possible to get a white vinyl available only there. For every purchase, while supplies last, there will be a complimentary branded shopper and the exclusive Wish You Were Here 50 edition of the Brain Damage fanzine. For fans who love to dive deeper, the Dear Pink Floyd Experience online becomes an open space to share memories, words, and impressions inspired by the band.

Moreover, on December 14, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, an event designed for those who want to listen to the album in its purest form will take place. The new 2025 remaster will be played on a sound system that makes you forget where the room ends and the music begins. A listening ritual, more than an event.

With this new project, Sony Music opens a collective sentimental archive to best summarize how the sound of the Floyd continues to permeate people’s lives. To connect with fans around the world, the official band website hosts the Dear Pink Floyd Experience, an open space to share memories, words, and impressions inspired by the band.
