In India weddings are grand affairs, lasting several days and involving the participation of an enormous number of guests. Even for less affluent families, tradition dictates that celebrations span at least three days, let alone what the 1% can afford. Take the case of Anant Ambani, son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, who, to celebrate his union with Radhika Merchant, has invited none other than Rihanna. Ambani's father is the chairman of Reliance Industries, with a net worth of $113 billion, and the entire family, with a wealth of over $100 billion, heads some of India's leading conglomerates in media, oil, and retail. According to The Independent, among the invited celebrities are Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Ivanka Trump, Disney CEO Bob Iger, other than Rihanna.

Last night, several videos posted on social media documented the star's arrival in Jamnagar, in preparation for the initial wedding celebrations starting today, March 1. Even for some of India's most prominent pop culture celebrities, a team of 65 chefs will prepare over 2,500 different dishes for guests to enjoy over three days. The program includes, in addition to nine pages explaining the dress code, a cocktail party called “an evening in Everland”, and a jungle-themed party. Later, guests will be invited to explore the animal rehabilitation center, a 260-acre estate, before returning to celebrate the union between Ambani and Merchant at the “Mela Rogue” party styled as ‘dazzling desi romance’. On the third day, guests can visit Tusker Trails, while the final celebration will take place at Hashtakshar, during which traditional Indian attire, such as the sari, will be required.

Rihanna's arrival at Jamnagar airport last night confirms that the singer will not perform at the wedding but at the pre-wedding festivities, which could cost up to $129 million. Some sources have revealed to India Today that Rihanna will be paid between $8 and $9 million for her performance, slightly more than Beyoncé in 2018, who was engaged by the same family for Ambani's daughter's wedding for $6 million. According to India Today, Rihanna will perform a medley of her most famous songs, including Diamonds, All Of The Lights, We Found Love In A Hopeless Place, and is expected to wear a mix of Indo-fusion style looks.
