«Anyone can experiment with fashion», Max Porter on his latest Mytheresa campaign The actor from Boots and soon to be seen in God of War tells us about the new Mytheresa campaign

Max Parker, English actor born in '92, rose to fame with the role of Mikhail Tanner in Vampire Academy before becoming Sergeant Sullivan in the acclaimed Netflix show Boots, created by Andy Parker and centered on a military academy, which drew bigoted criticism from the Pentagon for its queer themes, in line with the conservatism of Donald Trump's U.S. presidency.

Before seeing him in his next project, the series God of War based on the homonymous video game where he plays Heimdall, Parker is the star of the Mytheresa Best of Spring campaign, a leading multibrand digital platform in the fashion and luxury sector. The photoshoot images took the actor to the Tabernas desert in Andalusia, for a story revolving around the idea of a new chapter. We discussed changes with Max Parker in our five-question interview.

The Mytheresa campaign you're part of focuses on the concept of a new chapter. How do you experience change? 

Max Parker: I get bored easily. I get passionate about something for a month and then, quickly, I need to move on to something else. I think it probably has to do with my ADHD, but I also feel that moving to other countries, trying different clothes, experimenting with new hobbies is exciting. For example, for me, staying stuck in one place or one point is a big failure. Change is positive. 

Another theme is personal evolution. How do you try to improve yourself every day? And how difficult is it?

Max Parker: Lately, I've been trying to stay as far away as possible from my phone. Whether it's emails, social media, or anything else. In a world like today's where everything is digital, turning off the phone, going to see people in real life, and reconnecting with friends is something you have to make an effort for and integrate more and more into your daily routine. I think it's working for me. 

What is a piece of clothing you feel comfortable in? That makes you feel more confident in yourself? 

Max Parker: Boots. If you wear a suit and have a nice pair of boots on your feet, it literally changes the way you enter a room. And also sunglasses. When you wear sunglasses, it's like having a little mask; you can become a different person for that day. 

What is your relationship with fashion?

Max Parker: My relationship with fashion has evolved over the years. It has definitely been filled with many trials and errors. At school, I remember being one of the first kids to wear jeans in class, and that made me very nervous. But one thing I've realized and like is that anyone can experiment with fashion, even if it doesn't always work. You have to come to the awareness that not everything suits everyone and develop your own style that makes you feel good.  

What can you tease us about your next role in God of War? 

Max Parker: Actually, not much—if I talked too much, I'd probably get fired. What I can say is that I definitely manifested the desire to get a role like this. I've been hoping for an opportunity like this for a long time because I'm usually cast as the good guy, while I've always admired the villains. This is a character that meets the requirements I was looking for, and I can't wait for people to see him.
