The first collaborative capsule collection by Dior and sacai

The first collaborative capsule collection by Dior and sacai It's a great year for Chitose Abe

Japanese designer Chitose Abe and her brand founded in '99, sacai, is living a golden moment: after the announcement that it will be Abe who will design the new couture collection by Jean-Paul Gaultier as the first guest designer of the brand, today a capsule collection was presented that sacai co-signed together with Dior. The collection is important because it represents Dior's first collaborative capsule ever – a move not totally surprising coming from Kim Jones and which confirms the enormous interest around sacai, which even before the famous collaboration with Nike, counted among its fans heavyweights such as Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour.

The collection includes 57 items, of which 38 are ready-to-wear items, 10 are Saddle Bags and the rest consists of accessories. The aesthetic principle of the capsule is very minimalistic: in all, there are only four colourways, which are black, blue, white and cream, that mix Dior branding and construction with sacai's sportswear-inspired fabrics while denim items present clear inspirations to the rich world of Japanese denim. Among the Saddle Bags, on the other hand, there is one inspired by the jackets of the MA-1 drivers, items that have been part of sacai codes for years. Chitose Abe explained to WWD

The whole collection is very much a hybrid of Dior and Sacai: Dior’s tailoring and the techniques, plus our details, like for example the denim shirt with the drawstring. It’s very innovative and groundbreaking of Dior to have a project like this with Sacai. I’m very happy, and I feel that this groundbreaking philosophy is something that is shared not just between Kim and I, but also between Dior and Sacai. It was a wonderful challenge.

The Dior x Sacai collaborative capsule will be available from next November.
