It is an interesting time for sneakerheads these days, with more and more luxury fashion brands bringing their take on sneakers to market. In the best cases, an interesting crossover between streetwear aesthetic and knowledge are combined with the bigger fashion houses know-how and high quality of production, to create some truly amazing sneakers. Versace is a good example of this where they saw a market possibility of creating innovative and high-quality shoes for a more youth-oriented market, and going about it in the completely right way, they did their homework and employed the forward-thinking talents of Salehe Bembury who’d done work for Yeezy, and took a trend of chunky and sock-like silhouettes and created a very fresh take on both for Versace and their Versus line. We were lucky enough to get a pair of his revolutionary Versace Chain Reaction sneakers into the studio for a closer look. The sole was designed from an a-ha moment for Salehe, where while looking at a Cuban link chain and realized the flat sections could be used to design a functional outer sole.
