The end of Venezia FC kits as we know it?

The end of Venezia FC kits as we know it? After three years, Bureau Borsche will no longer design the uniforms of the team

Venezia FC is undoubtedly the club that changed the way we think of a football team, from its sober and elegant communication to the design of its shirts, which have become a cult object even for those who do not follow the most beautiful sport in the world. First produced by Nike and later by Kappa, Venezia's jerseys have come closer to the world of fashion than to football, raising the bar for design and stories every season. The jerseys produced by Kappa in the last three years in particular have shaped a style that the other clubs have tried, with varying degrees of success, to imitate in order to turn their jerseys into true lifestyle garments. The design team behind these jerseys was Bureau Borsche, one of the most respected design firms in Europe, who had been working closely with creative director Ted Philipakos, until he left the club earlier this year.

However, the jerseys for the 2023/24 season will be the last designed by Mirko Borsche' studio, who will not renew his contract with the Veneto club. The decision comes a few months after Ted Philipakos left the club's management and the associated change of direction by the new management, and the consequent change of course imposed by the new management less interested in exploring this aesthetic profile. However, the end of the relationship between Venezia and Bureau Borsche deprives us of one of the most exciting examples of how a football club can revolutionise its identity without losing its values.

When we asked Jean-Pierre Meier about Venezia's redesign, he explained: 'The main goal was to develop a concept that speaks for Venezia Calcio, where the club wants to go and what principles it represents. We wanted to create something special, something that would stand out from all the other clubs'. Now that this goal has been achieved, we will see how Venezia Calcio's journey continues and what the next kits will be. Now that Venezia has become a cult brand even for non-fans, the company has taken a new direction.
