Barcelona's away kit for next season

Just a few hours ago, Nike and FC Barcelona unveiled to the world its second kit for the 2023-2024 season. Part of the “Here to lead the way” campaign that serves the purpose of highlighting what makes Barça such a unique organization, the kit goes beyond aesthetics. Despite its simple look, there are many details that contain a piece of Barcelona history, ready to be dissected.

White base and blue shorts, with red and blue - blaugrana - socks and sleeve cuffs. A very modern and sleek design, somewhat fresh in its simplicity and use of colors, as the Nike logo and the sponsors Spotify and Ambilight also appear in an eye-catching, electric bright blue.

The biggest news here is the color white, which has not been used for away jerseys since the 1970s, an important time in Barcelona’s history. The era was defined by Johan Cruyff’s tenure at what is now known as Spotify Camp Nou, during which he became an icon for the club and the city. Way back in the 1970s, Cruyff made Barcelona the club that it is today, he paved the way for all the blaugrana values and legends we know and love, so this kit pays homage to all of that. But that’s not all - the white references another key element of Barcelona’s current identity.

In fact, the color was used for the jerseys in the club’s first ever women’s football game in 1970 at the Camp Nou, establishing there and then a rich tradition of women’s football that is still today a source of immense pride for Barcelona the city and Barcelona the club. The other big news is the Barça logo. While it may appear normal at first glance, it is actually an older version of the iconic badge, one from the 1970s, naturally. This is done to keep the same theme going, celebrating such important years for the team, all the while keeping in mind next season’s goals.
