Monza's new kit collection is a tribute to racing history

A club paying homage to its city’s traditions is a common sight in football, more often than not through shirts. Monza, for one, has done exactly that for the new season. The release of 4 different jerseys - home, away, and the two goalkeeper versions - aims to ignite local pride in Monza fans and citizens with some phenomenal details. ‘Speed up your game’ is the collection’s name, referencing Monza’s illustrious history with auto racing.

The announcement video is particularly evocative of all the ties that the city has with the famous Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, focusing on what makes this kit so special. Although the template is similar to last year’s, both for the home and away versions, Lotto designers added some interesting details. An example, the racing checkers pattern at the bottom of the iconic vertical Monza stripe. A staple of the club’s aesthetic since the early 1970s, the stripe undergoes an interesting twist for next season, all in the name of honoring Monza’s racing tradition. The other main detail is a patch displaying a tracing of the Monza Circuit. A powerful symbol for any self-respecting Formula 1 fanatic, this completes the jersey’s links to the world of racing. 

These two details may not be visually-altering, and the kits themselves have not changed much since last season. However, in terms of building a story around this vital part of Monza’s identity, the club could not have done better.
