Atletico Madrid fans made the club change its crest

For a few seasons now, Atlético Madrid fans have been contesting the club's new logo, actually, since the first moment when the new version replaced the one on the Colchoneros' shirts from 1947 to 2016. Over the last weekend, in a referendum held among the club's members, the decision to return to the old, squarer version with a significant yellow outer border became official. 

61,000 members took part in the vote, 44% of the total, represented within the club by the 'Comisión Social', an assembly of ten representatives who have the role of spokespersons in the board of directors on issues related to the club's identity and history. The mood of the fans in recent years has therefore prevailed and we may soon see the old logo on the Atleti uniforms, not yet presented by Nike.

Therefore, in addition to the yellow outline, a crest returns on the Spanish team's shirts that in style and symbolism is more reminiscent of the symbols of Madrid. The prevailing colours remain red, blue and white, but the green, brown and black that are part of the coat of arms of the city of Madrid are back, as well as the bear next to the arbutus, the plant symbol of the Spanish capital that was put in the background in the last version.
