Napoli can no longer use Maradona's face on its jerseys This was decided by the Court of Naples

After the five shirts dedicated to Maradona in the last two years, the court has decided, any activity of Napoli concerning the unforgettable Parthenopean number 10 must cease immediately. This was decided by Judge Paolo Andrea Vassallo, of the second civil section of the Court of Naples, who ruled in favour of Jorge Sebastian Baglietto, the judicial administrator who protects the interests of Maradona's five children. A decision that came after last year's warnings and complaints, when already after the release of the first jersey, the heirs considered the use of the image undue despite the fact that the Neapolitan team had acquired the rights from Giuseppe Klain, the artist who drew the effigy on the last kits.

According to the judge's decision, the contract stipulated by Ceci with the Italian club, amounting to just under 23,000 euros, was deemed 'detrimental to patrimonial expectations' given that Maradona is: 'a planetary symbol of football, recognised and recognisable throughout the world, whose economic value appears to be of considerable magnitude, almost inestimable'. The judge, however, took into account the company's good faith and for this reason the fine is not very high, but in any case De Laurentiis will have to compensate the family but above all he will no longer be able to use his face.
