The worst arena in Europe is Italian But there are as many as three in the worst ten according to a ranking compiled by the British site Money

The Italian stadiums are not really living a moment of glory, including crumbling structures and closures of most of the stands because of Covid, and to witness it has just arrived a study conducted by the British site Money. The ranking of the best stadiums in Europe was obtained by cross-referencing the reviews posted by visiting fans on three different sources: Tripadvisor, Google and Football Ground Map. And it was not very lenient towards the Serie A arenas.

The worst stadium in Europe was the Castellani in Empoli, with a rating of 2.90/5, while in fifth and seventh place were the Pierluigi Penzo in Venice and the Bentegodi in Verona, with 3.43/5 and 3.47/5 respectively. Just outside the Top (or Worst) Ten we find the Artemio Franchi of Florence, confirming the words of Rocco Commisso who had defined it as "the most disgusting thing that has ever been invented", with an unflattering score of 3.57/5. Little better does the recently renamed Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, in 14th place with 3.67.

The best stadiums on the continent are the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, home of Borussia, with a score of 4.57/5 and, at 4.53, a large group that includes the Arena Națională of Steaua Bucharest, Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabeu, the Welsh Millennium Stadium, the Polish Stadion Narodowy and the London Tottenham Stadium. The best of the Italians is confirmed as San Siro, in eleventh place with 4.43. This stadium too, however, has for months been at the center of a long dispute between fans, the club and the city of Milan, demonstrating that even excellent facilities in Italy are not living in easy times.
