It's official: VAR system will be used from 2019/2020 Champions League It's an historical decision that involved other UEFA competitions

The current one will be the last edition of the Champions League without the help of the technology: during the Executive Committee held today in Nyon, UEFA has established that starting from the 2019/2020 season the VAR will also be used in Europe. It's an historical turning point for continental football, as several times the top European senior executives had expressed their doubts on the use of Video Assistant Referee, despite the first positive tests from Russia 2018, Serie A and Liga.

'We are confident that the introduction of VAR in August 2019 will give us enough time to put in place a solid system and train match officials to ensure an efficient and successful implementation of the VAR in the Champions League, the most successful club competition important in the world', said UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin. But it will not regarding only the Champions League: the VAR will also be used during the Super Cup 2019, the Europa League (but only starting from the 2020/2021 season), the Nations League finals 2021 and the European 2020 final tournament.
