Kanye West and Y2K were among the most searched words on Google in 2021 Obviously there is no shortage of Travis Scott, Squid Game and Kim Kardashian

Less and less to the end of the year and as per tradition Google has released the ranking of the most searched words on the search engine in the United States during the last twelve months, a good opportunity to get an overview of some of the trends that have characterized the year between confirmations and several surprises. Obviously could not miss Squid Game, among the most searched in the General ranking, while in the Celebrities find space Travis Scott and Pete Davidson, topic of interest after the beginning of his relationship with Kim Kardashian.

Kim occupies two places in the Top Trending Celebrity Couple list, in first place with Kanye West and in third place with the Saturday Night Live comedian. In the list of memes, the undisputed leader is Bernie Sanders and his photo taken during the inauguration of Joe Biden, while "Shees" occupies the fifth position. In the classic "Aesthetic" Indie occupies the first position, with Dark Academia in second place, followed by Cottagecore and Y2K, while in the list of sustainable products in first place is hand soap, followed by leather jackets.

The real twist, however, is in the search for outfits, in which Britney Spears and Harry Styles had to cede the first position to the inventor of slouchy dressing, Adam Sandler. In the list of the most absurd searches, the ranking of "How to pronounce" is definitely the one able to give us more satisfaction, with "How to pronounce Michael Jackson" in second position and "How to pronounce the name of Elon Musk's son" in fifth. In Italy the results are decidedly less exciting, with a large slice of research on the vaccination campaign, while among the personalities Måneskin occupy only the fifth position, preceded by sportsmen Eriksen, Berrettini, Donnarumma and the Prime Minister Mario Draghi. Net of some unexpected results, the american Google's list seems an excellent summary of the year, between the consolidation of some trends and the unexpected explosion of others. The most interesting aspect, however, remains the almost totally Gen Z trait of many searches (Olivia Rodrigo is the most searched musical artist), a sign of a progressive generational passing of the baton.
