Everything is fair in love and war, but in 2017 we have to add "also on social media". In particular, every strategies is permitted to conquer more and more Followers and Likes for your own Instagram account, even if "unfair", like to use apps to increase the number of followers. And who cares if these ones are "fake" or only interested, like you, to raise the numbers, what matters is to have – and to show everybody – a sky-high number of followers like the real Instagram Stars.
But, we know, all good games come to an end.
In fatc, recently ESET - who means Enjoy Safer Technology - a Slovakian company who deals with antivirus and cyber-security in European Union since 1992, has identified 13 applications on Play Store who increase the number of followers, but they actually steal user credentials. These apps, who has been promptly removed from Play Store, stole log-in information from the unaware users who used them and then sent the credentials to a remote server. The fraud was well-designed: in some cases a "fake Instagram interface" appeared on the screen of the users or the access was denied to them, which were redirected to Instagram's official website to enter their credentials.
How to check if our account has been hacked?
ESET advises to be very careful to some details for example the suspect increase of the number of followers or replies by strangers to never-posted comments, and also the alert of attempts of unanthorised access into your account. If you noticed these cases, ESET advises to change immediately the password of your account and, if you use the same password for more platforms, you have to change also these. Considering that these apps are very popular – installed by about 1.5 million of users around the world – here are 10 of the most used application among those reported by ESET. If you installed these apps, we advise you to remove now and then change your passwords of all your online account.
