The Weeknd's new vinyl designed with MSCHF is shaped like a blade

The Weeknd's new vinyl designed with MSCHF is shaped like a blade And it might break your record player

From logged envelopes to the (lost) lawsuit against Vans, the MSCHF art collective has certainly given us a 2022 full of lawsuits and surprises. One of the surprises is the collaboration with Canadian singer The Weeknd for the launch of his new single 'Out of Time': a vinyl pressed into a real working saw blade that, despite its sharpness, can be used, with some care, on your own turntable.

Vinyl Blade comes in a bright red colour with black accents, resembling a 'saw blade' and the piece includes an adapter compatible with most turntable models. The makers warn that the copper-coated steel grooves could wear out the turntable's stylus, which is why MSCHF suggests a playback speed of 33 RPM. Although the promotional video shows the vinyl in use on a saw, the website states that the piece is not intended for use as a functional saw blade.

The Vinyl Blade was produced in a limited run of 25 copies, which were made available via blind auction with a minimum bid of $1,000. The auction was launched on 7 April 2022 and lasted just 24 hours. After it closed, the top 25 bidders were able to get their hands on the limited vinyl, while unsuccessful participants were refunded.
