Discovering London with the new Samsung Z Fold 8 We tested Samsung's new device on the streets of the English capital, here's how it went
Who wouldn't want a phone that's large yet as light as a passport? That's exactly what came to mind when we tried the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 in London, where Samsung invited us for the Galaxy Unpacked event to get a hands-on look at the new generation of foldables. A device designed to accompany a day filled with commuting, photography, video, social media and work, continuously adapting to the needs of whoever is using it.
The first thing that strikes you about the Galaxy Z Fold8 is its form factor. The device has been rethought in its proportions: when closed it stays compact and usable with one hand, while opening it transforms it into a 7.6-inch display. The transition from one format to the other happens seamlessly, making it easy to switch quickly between tasks. Messaging tools, content creation, editing and multitasking are all packed into a body weighing just 201 grams, making the Galaxy Z Fold lighter than ever.
We took the Galaxy Z Fold8 through the streets of London, putting its capabilities to the test and, in particular, its camera. Amid the city's architecture, the people who fill it and ever-changing light conditions, we thoroughly tested the photography system. The 50 MP main camera captures detail-rich images and is perfect even for those who love shooting in RAW, while the ultrawide lens lets you tell the story of a space from a broader perspective. When the light fades, Nightography kicks in, backed by the ProVisual Engine, which works on noise, colour and sharpness to deliver more defined and balanced images.
Then there's the video stabilisation, a feature we particularly appreciated during our test, especially during the long boat session on the Thames. Walking, stopping, quickly switching subjects and carrying on filming: the phone follows your movements and makes it easier to create content even when time is extremely tight. This is an especially important quality for anyone who works with social media, particularly during intense periods like a Fashion Week, when every day turns into a relentless sequence of appointments, shoots, events and travel.
Battery life and performance also become essential when a smartphone accompanies every moment of the day. The Galaxy Z Fold8 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and a battery that Samsung says is capable of delivering up to 26 hours of video playback. Camera, video camera, calendar, work tool and entertainment space all coexist in a single device, ready to follow us from one location to the next.
After using it through the streets of London, what stays with you is precisely the sense of versatility. Closed, it fits in your pocket; open, it becomes a workspace; and the camera turns it into a creative tool always within reach. The Galaxy Z Fold8 therefore seems built around a very simple idea: to follow the rhythm of contemporary life, changing shape right along with us.
