PLASTICPRODUCT transforms a hair salon into an artistic experimentation space From October 17 to 31, MPa Hair Shop comes to Düsseldorf
What happens when a simple haircut becomes an artistic performance? This is the question behind MPa Hair Shop, the new project by PLASTICPRODUCT, the subversive Korean brand, which from October 17 to 31, 2026 will come to life in the spaces of YŌDA HAIR in Düsseldorf, Germany. Long drawn to reinterpreting everyday objects and gestures through unexpected perspectives, the brand this time turns to one of the most familiar places in urban life — the hair salon — transforming it into a space of experimentation at the intersection of art, sound, and language.
The project begins with an apparently ordinary situation: two people enter the salon, sit facing each other, and begin having their hair cut. YŌDA's hairstylists move between the two participants, alternating cuts while a spontaneous conversation takes shape, just as it would in any hair salon. The distinctive element is that each of the three interlocutors speaks in their own mother tongue, giving rise to an exchange that transcends the conventions of traditional communication.
It is precisely this conversation that becomes the primary material of the performance. The voices and sounds of the salon are recorded in real time and transmitted to a group of sound performers, who from a separate room fragment, repeat, and rework them until a new sonic composition takes shape. At the same time, the haircut is broadcast live in another space, accompanied by automatically generated subtitles.
The audience is free to move between the spaces of YŌDA HAIR, experiencing the same moment through different languages: physical action, sound, video, and the written word. An experience that calls into question the way we perceive gestures and conversations we are accustomed to taking for granted. With MPa Hair Shop, PLASTICPRODUCT thus continues its ongoing exploration of the transformation of everyday objects and experiences, demonstrating how even a hair appointment can become an opportunity to explore new forms of creative expression.
MPa Hair Shop will be hosted by YŌDA HAIR in Düsseldorf from October 17 to 31, 2026, with an opening performance scheduled for Saturday, October 17 at 4:00 PM.
