Here's what went down at the "VOICES OF DENIM" inauguration The exhibition project by AFA and Levi's that reinterprets denim through the creative lens of ten emerging designers
During Milan Fashion Week, Afro Fashion Association (AFA) and Levi's presented the first edition of Voices of Denim: A Living Cultural Language, a project created to explore denim as a material, a language, and a tool for cultural expression. Ten emerging BIPOC fashion designers were invited to work with Levi's deadstock materials to develop their own manifesto look.
Fashion, photography, visual arts, cinema, styling, sound, and design came together along a journey of research, mentorship, and experimentation, guiding the designers in building a vision that went beyond the garment itself. The project brought together a group of mentors and industry professionals, including Cara Fenu and Paul Dillinger from the Levi's design team, Edward Buchanan, Tamu McPherson, Michelle Francine Ngonmo, Francesca Ragazzi, Walter D'Aprile, Cristina Baruzzi, and Idris Balogun, creating a space for exchange and dialogue across different generations, experiences, and disciplines. Rounding off the project, the exhibition hosted at Casa degli Artisti brought these visions together, transforming the work developed throughout the journey into a collective narrative.
