The Allerdale is the latest addition to the Made in UK collection of New Balance, a line that celebrates the brand's heritage and commitment to craftsmanship. Inspired by the historic district of Allerdale, in Cumbria, England – where New Balance's manufacturing facility in Flimby is located – this new model perfectly combines New Balance’s aesthetic with a modern, formal design intended to offer both comfort and style. Its meticulous craftsmanship includes New Balance's FuelCell cushioning technology, ensuring lasting comfort even after long hours of wear. The shoe features a robust sole unit with a cupped profile and a hiking-inspired tread, adding an outdoor element to its otherwise refined look. Made with high-quality leather and suede, the Allerdale maintains the clean and refined silhouette that characterizes the Made in UK collection. The minimalist branding, highlighted by the embroidered flying New Balance logo, enhances its subtle elegance. Sam Pearce, Creative Design Manager of New Balance, explained that the Allerdale represents a new market opportunity for the brand, shifting focus from retro running styles to a more formal and tailored approach. This design evolution is not just a response to current fashion trends, but also an extension of New Balance's legacy, which is based on its iconic Hiker models and its 1980s walking shoe collection, also made in England. Pearce emphasized that the Allerdale is more than just a shoe: it is a modern, unisex interpretation of a classic style, offering a cleaner and more minimalist silhouette, while staying true to New Balance's values of high-quality craftsmanship and innovation. The hiking-inspired D-ring lacing system and the woven tongue label featuring illustrations of the Lake District further reinforce the outdoor influence of the shoe, while the mock stitching and embroidered NB logo complete the look.
