Alpargatas, the company that owns Havaianas, the historic flip-flop brand born in Brazil in 1962, recorded global sales of 744.9 million dollars which corresponds to 260 million pairs of shoes sold in 2021 alone – an increase of 13% compared to the previous year. 31 million pairs were sold worldwide, outside of Brazil.
The incredible result is the result of a global expansion strategy that, last year, saw Alpargatas engaged in the multi-million dollar acquisition of the rothy's sustainable footwear brand. Alpargatas CEO Beto Funari explained:
«The numbers are the result of a long-term strategy. […] The flip-flop portfolio has grown by more than 30 percent in the last three years, driven by innovations on a global scale. The portfolio of sandals, flats, sneakers, complemented by accessories and apparel, increased by more than 200 percent in the period».
