Fashion muse: Nana in Wonderland a.k.a. Dylana Suarez

Dylana Suarez. Giovane, californiana, ma soprattutto decisa. Tutto ciò che c’è da sapere su di lei è riassunto nella frase del profilo del suo blog, Nana in Wonderland, dove recita: “Fashion is what makes me wake up in the morning. Writing clears my mind and mends my heart. Stories help me sleep at night.

Blog di streetstyle come The sartorialist e Stockholm StreetStyle.

9. Customizzi i tuoi vestiti?

Ancora non so cosa farmene!

13. Il capo che ami di più.
Domanda difficile.

ENGLISH VERSION

1. In your opinion what is style?
To me, style is the expression of our creativity through clothes. Whatever it is that inspires me, be it music, dance, art, nature, a magazine spread, traveling, anything . . . I find that I incorporate bits and pieces of what I love and of what catches my interest into my wardrobe. There are not limits on how we can express our personality and interests through the way we wear clothes, and I think that is the greatest thing about fashion. We need to all just have fun with it and not be afraid to experiment and showcase who we are through our fashion choices. It makes life so much more interesting!

2. Which are the items that are always in your bag and that you don’t go out without?
In my bag, I always have my little pouch of makeup for my lipgloss, concealer, etc., my cellphone, wallet, sunglasses, and I always carry a book around with my if my bag can fit it! I love to read :) And I always carry around a little notebook so I can jot down notes or anything that comes to mind that I don't want to forget later.

3. Which are your favorite designers?
I love Dries van Noten, Hannah McGibbon at Chloe, Pheobe Philo at Celine, Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler, Phillip Lim, Christopher Bailey at Burberry Prorsum, Karen Walker, Christophe DeCarnin at Balmain, Rachel Comey, Karl Lagerfeld, and Marc Jacobs are just a few of my favorite designers!

4. Which are your favorite models?
My favorite model used to be Gemma Ward, and I hope to see her make a return to the modeling world. But right now, I am really loving Abbey Lee, Daria Webowy, and Karlie Kloss right now! They all are such naturals in front of the camera and create the most amazing shapes with their body. They all give so much personality to the clothes!

5. Your perfect outfit for the morning.
My perfect morning out would probably be a pair of skinny jeans, a sheer button-down blouse in a long length, and a black blazer with standout lapels, and a pair of cute flats. This is always my go-to look when I have to get up early for work or school. It's such a chic and practical look that basically never fails!

6. Your perfect outfit for the night.
My perfect outfit for night would be a feminine dress in a pretty print like florals. I would toughen up the dress with my favorite black leather motorcycle jacket from Zara. Then  would wear a pair of heels with black socks to add a quirky touch that is so me. And of course, I cannot go out at night with my vintage Chanel chain purse.

7. Who/ What inspires/inspired your style?
I am so inspired by street style blogs like The Sartorialist and Stockholm Street Style. And I especially love model street style. Models come up with some of the most interesting and eclectic looks that I cannot stop staring at! I am also very inspired by Kirsten Dunst, Chloe Sevigny, Alexa Chung, Kate Bosworth, and Rachel Bilson. They always look so effortless and have a sense of style that is distinctly their own, and I always see myself wearing all their outfits. I also love how they mix vintage, designer, and high street pieces all together. And my favorite movie style icons are Audrey Hepburn for her classic, timeless look, Molly Ringwald for her quirky vintage taste, and Meg Ryan in When Harry met Sally. Her character made masculine chic look so good. I still can't get her trousers and blazer looks out of my head! The movie Clueless has always been one of my the influential movies for me of all time, too!

8. If you had a basic black dress, how would you make it original and stylish?
I would use my favorite accessories to make a LBD all my own, like my leopard printed cuff bracelet, my rings, and maybe a cute pair of socks with my heels.

9. Do you customize your clothes? If yes, how do you do it?
I do if I find that something doesn't fit how I like it. I usually spend some time altering great vintage finds, like shorts and dresses. I usually hem these items and make them shorter by hand sewing them. I recently just totally reconstructed a little denim dress that I had to make it have more of a slim fit on the sewing machine. I am not an expert, but I will be returning to school this summer to study fashion merchandising, and I will be taking an apparel construction class, so I am sure that I can sharpen my sewing skills for future use!

10. Which are the items in your wish list now?

Right now, I really would love a lightweight creme blazer, a sleeveless trench dress, black leather buckle wedges, and military cargo jacket, and a pair of high-waisted beige trousers to wear with all my belts. And I really want a Chloe Paraty bag!

11. Heels or flats?
I love heels when I want to feel really feminine and edgy, but most of the time I am a flats girls and boots girl. I am always on the run, so I love to be comfortable, but chic at the same time. But I still wear heels all the time, and esp. for my blog.

12. Is there an item in your wardrobe that you are embarrassed about?
Not really. If there is something that I was truly embarrassed about, I probably have already tossed it. My closet is filled with everything I love and would never be afraid to wear out. But if I had to choose something, it would probably be my Bob Marley-esque knitted beanie. It's huge and it was a gift from a friend and is in all these wacky colors mixed together. I haven't actually worn it outside of my house because it look ridiculous on me! I still have it but I don't really know what to do with it! haha

13. The most loved item you have in your wardrobe.

This is a hard questions. I love so many things in my wardrobe . . . but I must say that I love my vintage polka dotted dress so much. I could wear it everyday!

14. Why did you start writing on your blog?
I started writing my blog because I have loved fashion all my life, ever since my mom started making me clothes when I was just a little girl. And I have always been a creative writer and I am such a fan of fashion magazines and all the stories they featured. It has always been my dream to write for a fashion magazine, and so I thought why not start my own version of a magazine right now? That's when I looked into blogging. It was the perfect way for me to combine my two greatest interests. My blog started out as more of just a fashion news blog and was about my favorite clothes, designer reviews, or just anything that came to mind that was fashion/culture related. But after coming across all the personal style blogs online, I was inspired to share my own sense of style through pictures, too. It made my whole blogging experience so much more personal and interesting. Blogging has really opened doors for me and allowed me to learn more about myself in relation to fashion. Fashion blogging really is a unique and creative thing, and I am so thankful that I fell into it and am a part of its ever growing community. I wanted a way to create my own little place in the fashion world, and blogging has allowed me to do so.
