The Premier League, everyone knows that it’s the most spectacular, entertaining, followed, and rich championship in the world. And, as it seems, it’s also the most various. As proves the rising number of girl-fans that attend at Premier League games - right now they are the 25% of the spectators - and all the realities that want to represent them. One of these is Girlfans, a magazine founded by Jacqui McAssey, Senior Lecturer in Fashion at Liverpool John Moores University and photography researcher.

After concentrating on Liverpool and Everton, Girlfans decided to dedicate its third issue to one of the two sides of Manchester - the blue one - with a number entirely focused on the Citizens’ fangirls. The third edition of the ‘zine has been presented in style, with a dedicated event that took place at the Whitworth Art Gallery of Manchester on August 10. Other than the photographies of all the girl fans of the new issue, there have been a series of installations of fan-made art, clothing, flags, and memorabilia, including the legendary bell rung by the long-standing Manchester City fan, Helen Turner.

Girlfans, realized by women for women, wants to represent the diversity of football culture, giving the importance they deserve to all the women that every Saturday and Sunday crowd the standings of English stadiums. And it also does it thanks to Jacqui’s photos, which record the feminine community in a natural and spontaneous way, also watching how girl fans express their fandom through clothing and fashion.

"Girlfans - Manchester City F.C.” is already available at the Whitworth Gallery shop in Manchester and it will be available online - alongside with the first and second issues - on Girlfans online store from August 17.
