Manchester City bought Leicester's groundgardener John Ledwidge, dubbed the Messi of mowing, is the Citizens' latest market coup

There is no stopping the market for Manchester City, and having continued to improve the squad that completed a historic hat-trick last year, interest is now turning to the pitch itself. Next year John Ledwidge, who has made Leicester City's turf a spectacle within a spectacle for a decade, will take charge of the Etihad Stadium ground. Ledwidge, dubbed the "Messi of mowing", has announced he will leave the Foxes to join the reigning Premier League champions.

So the dense possession of Guardiola's players will be enhanced by the green geometries of the talented head of groundsmen, who has enchanted Leicester fans over the years with his boundary-pushing creations. Last year Ledwidge fulfilled his dream of winning the Premier League Grounds Team of the season award for the best work on the home pitch, which over time had become a bit of a personal obsession. Having also achieved the latter goal, and with the Foxes' relegation as an accomplice, Ledwidge made a huge professional leap by joining the team that proved to be the best in Europe on the pitch. And which, from next season, can count on further excellence to make the Citizens' games at the Ethiad even more special.
