digital cover n° 00

How to get to know a city if not by asking those who live there every day? What better way to celebrate a new arrival in town than by celebrating its places, habits, and idiosyncrasies?     Paris, like many other metropolises, is going through a period of transition that is transforming the city into something new, different, and more interesting. For the occasion of the launch of nss france, nss has decided to remap the city itself by consulting people from the creative industry and asking them to evaluate the current state of affairs and to share the places that still make Paris a city to love today. arrow

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is amazing right now. The energy in the summer is always so strong — everyone’s out and about, everything’s spontaneous. I kind of love not knowing what the next day holds, who you might run into or where you might end up. The only thing that’s missing is access to the sea or a lake on those super hot summer days.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

The place where I spend most of my time lately is the new CHIMI boutique in the Marais. It’s such a gorgeous and peaceful space, and truly so versatile. I’ve done yoga there at 9am, entertained friends and shared coffee and snacks into the afternoon, and drank natural wine until the early hours. It really feels like a community space and I love that I always run into people there.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

There are always so many interesting scenes coming up in Paris, but I think right now, there’s an even deeper creative love of vintage and pre-loved pieces (probably partially fostered and inspired by Vinted, honestly!) There are so many local creatives who curate their own amazing archives, including my friend Willis who has an amazing one called 4rchive4ever. Not only is this encouraging the circular economy, but it’s also inspiring those who create new collections — everything is informed by nostalgic references.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

For dinner, Le Relais de Venise is always where I bring visitors — you can’t be in Paris and avoid those amazing steak-frites. And people may have their opinions about this, but Café Charlot. It’s cute, it’s reliable, and it’s a vibe. Chez Jeannette is a fave spot for drinks too, and the perfect meeting spot.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

Aside from a sea or lake!? Haha. Paris is slightly traditional, which we love about it, but this also means that it doesn’t have too many “concept spaces”, spaces that are versatile and multi-purpose (stores that are cafés, that are also restaurants, that can be bars, and that you can work or create in.) Some similar things are starting to pop up, but Paris has some catching up to do compared to London or New York in that category.

@annelauremais

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

I actually love Paris in June and July, days are longer and warmer, people are less stressed. More generally I feel the city is a bit less snob, the new generation is more free and fun !

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

I actually love my neighborhood around Notre Dame, you can have a walk by the Seine and see all the most amazing buildings the city has to offer. It is also very close to Le Marais and Saint Germain, so you can make many things by walking !

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

I would say that A new kind of vintage shopping by appointment is emerging with Paris Paris for example.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Chez Loulou for a very special dinner on a hot summer night, the terrace is really beautiful. At Kitchen Terre restaurant, just because the food is incredible and the atmosphere very chill, totally out of “the places to be”. Le Progrès for a drink or 0fr for the best books selection!

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

The ambition

@lizostanina

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris has been my home for nearly seven years now and I always loved its energy, art scene and creativity in the air. Paris is really fun in spring-summer and I am excited for the good weather, more art and good energy.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

I really like going to Parc de Batignolles - it's not that known and full as other parks and it has really cute views with tall buildings, mini ponds with ducks and a lot of green space. Going to Bourse de Commerce that became one of my favorite museums - I absolutely love its design by Tadao Ando. Art shops have also been my happy place - especially Rougier&Ple in Marais and Boesner in the 11th district.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

I feel like the creative scene has been evolving and I personally have been slightly moving from fashion to art with painting and video installations, so I am definitely more excited about Basel than fashion week. I really like the projects that unite both fashion, music, culture and art and Paris has a lot of those coming.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

I am not big on clubbing but I definitely have my favorite art spots and shops - obviously Rick Owens in Palais-Royal, I also like Comme Des Garçons at rue saint honoré, The Broken Arm and Little Dover Street Market in 3537 which is also new favorite artistic alma-mater. I always love doing gallery tours in Marais with Perrotin, Almine Rech, Frank Elbaz, Stems gallery, Thaddaeus Ropac and David Zwirner.

We definitely go to Baba Zulu for chicken and waffles after and to Malro for date night because they play Chief Keef and Donda, there's no place with a better playlist.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I feel like Paris will always miss the "yes-energy" and the fast pace in anything, which is not specifically a bad thing. Also I feel like it lacks the united creative community - there are many different groups of creatives that very rarely or even never come together to create something big. This would be a cool thing to happen.

@jaimetoutcheztoi

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is amazing and even more so when it is summer ! There is such a vibrant and happy mood with crowded terrasses and parks right now, it feels good to live in such an inspiring city.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

Our happy place in Paris is a secret rooftop close by our apartment, on the 9th, where we can enjoy a breathtaking view. Everytime we need a break from the city, it is our go-to spot !

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

Paris is well known for its Fashion scene and I must say we are always amazed by all the emerging creative minds out there. Fashion Week is around the corner so we are particularly excited for this time of the year where young French designers have the opportunity to showcase their creations.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

To shop, MODES for its amazing interior design but mostly for the Fashion selection, perfectly curated. To eat, I would definitely go to Le Loulou at Jardin des Tuileries for a Lunch in the garden, and as cultural spots I’d go to Gallery Patrick Seguin and Perrotin Gallery.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

Nothing !

@ludovicpieterson

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Did you know that it has not rained in Paris for 3 weeks? It hasn't happened since 1949, just to tell you that Paris is amazing right now, you can really feel the energy of the city and see the beauty of Paris. Because we often forget, but Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Been wearing T-shirts and shorts for 3 weeks, Parisian people know how special Paris is right now hahaha.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

I don't really have a happy place, I would say my happy place is when I’m surrounded by my friends. So it's not about the place, it's more about the moment. I would rather say my happy place is a moment, a feeling. I can just sit with a friend not even talking and I will be happy, just surrounded by good energy.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

3537 there is always something going on, exhibitions, events, concerts etc. If you are in Le Marais and just want to chill, you should definitely go there, the place is beautiful and inspiring.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

First of all @Gaijinparis, a vintage Japanese shop created by Thomas and Chahine, you must go there, love the energy, the authenticity of the place and the people. It's on the rue du Pontochoux. Close to Gaijin there’s also my favorite restaurant in Paris, called Pontochoux. Just like the street it also has Japanese vibes, you can eat one of the best curries in the city, trust me. Very cozy, peaceful. I love this street, you meet a lot of creative people there. Right now I’m into flowers and plants, and one of my favorite places is called « art et nature», if you are looking to start a collection it’s the place to be. I will definitely bring a friend there because the place is cool and close to a bookshop called OFR.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I'm very grateful, with my job I’ve been travelling a lot, it allows me to open my mind and see things from a different perspective, and I would say what's missing in Paris is the community vibes, the energy that you can find in other places. People here don't integrate you as much, it's very hard to make a real friend here. I have been living in Paris for 6 years now and I have only made 1 real friend without any connection or mutual friends. That’s crazy. That's the one thing I don't like about Paris, people usually say it's a French thing, but no, if you go to the South, in Marseille for example, people are very welcoming.

@warrenla7

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is always nice. I grew up here and am still in love with it. Weather is cool, people are cool. What more to ask ?

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

My favorite place to have a walk is definitely Le Marais. At first glance it looks like a small village, it’s very authentic. It’s also one of the most fashionable areas in Paris, you’ll always find well dressed people there and super nice clothing stores, like L’Eclaireur, Tom Greyhound, Plus Que Parfait, and other thrift shops. I also love having picnics at night at le Champs de Mars, just in front of the Eiffel Tower.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

I would say in general that Paris is one of the cities where culture is everywhere. You have lots of museums and super nice exhibitions to see all the time. I advise everyone to use a website that is called « Fever » where you can find tickets for shows, sports, culture, art, fashion, parties, food and lots of events. I love to check it regularly and try new cultural things.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

So my top 3 bars are Le Perchoir Marais, Andy Wahloo, and Mademoiselle Mouche. My top 3 clubs are Les Bains Paris, le Carmen, and le Mirage, and my top 3 restaurants are Le relais de l’entrecôte, Maslow, and le Malro.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I think Paris is great but sometimes Parisian people are not open minded enough. I have been to London several times and you can clearly see the difference between the two cities. In London people won’t judge you for what you wear. In Paris, they do.

@hera4president

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

I’d say that Paris is changing. The Olympics games are coming next year so the city is getting a make-over. It’s a lot going on but I’m sure it will look great.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

I get comfort while eating so my happy place is my favorite restaurant on the 13th named New Hoa Khoan. I’m also a big fan of Maison Suisen for a perfect massage.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

Soho House Paris has a great curation of new coming artists, performances and talks. And the cabaret is really cozy. I’ll love spending evenings there.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Bambini for starters: the location is nice and the food is great (please try the tiramisu). Then the Taschen store on the left shore of the city, the area is peaceful and really cute, and we all love a nice book don’t we?

Finally, I love to go to the Kith Store when it comes to shopping. It’s not in my favorite area but the curation never disappoints.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

A clean subway, but besides that I feel like my city is perfect as it is.

@frejasettergren

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Hot and busy! But I'm happy about staying in Paris now for a while. I'm leaving at the end of July to go home to Sweden, I just hope I will survive the heat until then! I manage by biking everywhere, drinking cool wine by the canal and going a little bit outside of Paris every weekend.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

Honestly it's at home! I'm so lucky to have found a good apartment where I've been able to stay since I first moved here five years ago. I think there's no better place than my tiny balcony on the last floor. I also sometimes climb up on my roof, I can see the Eiffel Tower from afar and Sacré Coeur almost right in front of me.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

The Vintage scene! There are so many vintage brands doing amazing photoshoots, like by gone days and olde, and new types of vintage stores opening, like Paris Paris and Irregular, it's super inspiring!

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

L'attache Paris (restaurant), Bonjour Jacob (coffeeshop and magazines), and Folderol (natural wines and ice cream).

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

The only thing Paris is missing for me is the sea haha. Other than that I am just as in love with Paris as when I moved here!

@ly.as

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

It's fun, it's playful, it's fashion. Paris is like a vibrant bubble on the verge of bursting, but every time it is about to burst, it just manages to get bigger. We'll always have Paris.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

Montmartre. It keeps me grounded. Because, when I lay on the burnt grass in front of the Sacré coeur, my dreams appear insignificant compared to the grandeur of this city. Sat there, overlooking the Parisian roofs I can't help but wonder :

Has anyone ever tried to bottle the city's energy ? ‘Cause you could make millions.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

FASHUN. The fashion industry has been the leading creative scene in Paris for decades. It does so because it communicates with all other creative scenes, music, art and cinema all come together around fashion.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

THE Hotel bar that sweats creativity, Hotel Grand Amour. The central garden with a view on the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Pyramid, The Tuileries garden, and the infamous fashion bar La Perle.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

A great Night life. Ever since Le Petit Palace closed I have yet to find another club encapsulating the creative energy of Paris. Somebody PLEASE open a cool club for creatives.

@renatakats

-01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is different day to day, not even season to season. Personally, I have a very diverse and international group of people that surrounds me daily through my work as a fashion photographer and content creator, so I’d say the way that Paris is for me at the moment (and always) is through these people and our experiences. I feel like I am always traveling without actually leaving the city. Can’t define it, it’s a feeling, you know.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

It was always and still is for 8 years a little square called “Place Dauphine” located at Île de la Cité. This place feels like the very center of the city, between the past and the future. It is located on an island between two sides of Paris, very zen. Somewhat hidden but also extremely famous for its charming and welcoming atmosphere. It feels inclusive in a way and I would pass by whenever...sad or happy, to have a little date or to have a cry session with my sister, maybe just to observe the crowd. It carries a very special energy and a lot of humane memories in my heart.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

In general, it is the scene of the artistic personalities (person to person case) of a newer generation that has this infectious energy and confidence to undertake different types of jobs at once. From music to fashion, to literature and then back to music or djing. It really feels like the time where we can just do anything and potentially actually be good at it with all the resources provided. It is accelerating to meet more and more people who can't define what they do with one word only. The new creative scene in Paris is complicated and battles with itself on its core values, such as diversity, originality (whatever it is) and kindness. It is a work in progress, but it's a good one.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Restaurant “Minibar” a hot new spot? I would say. Founded by a former sommelier of chez Martin Sébastien Fleury and a cook Matt Hiltemann, who worked for Quo Vadis in London. Already a great juxtaposition of 2 worlds... and the energy in this place is as follows. P.S Occasionally they invite chefs from other places to create little masterpieces in the kitchen with them for the crowd to enjoy. Unexpected twists and turns!

A moody speakeasy bar “Prescription Cocktail Club” for any occasion. Hidden gem!

Serving inventive specialty cocktails located in the 6eme Arrondissement. Just across        the bridge from the busy area of Le Marais.

A Vintage and curated archives store “At Dawn” founded by my friends Alyssa and Matthieu. They have an impeccable and very educated style themselves, so I trust         them a lot with the selection and this place carries good energy only. A local community place for sure.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

A good night club / gig venue! I ( Sorry! ) Somewhere that feels more like the progressing music scene in London and Seoul. I wanna be able to enjoy the energy of a quality rave but within the ground of central Paris and a safe environment, (being a girl). A welcoming space for talents of various genres from all over the world and backgrounds in music and artistry.

@hugo.lesourd

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

I see Paris nowadays as the best city for creatives and art in general. You can meet all kinds of artists like designers, singers, painters, photographers, Tattoo artists and many different personalities everywhere.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

My happy place in Paris is a small lake close to my home named Lac de Daumesnil where I can find peace, play sport, or just chill.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

There are so many places I think about but I love La Bourse du Commerce, Little Dover Street Market where you can find emergent designers and discovering a lot of artists in their gallery or YARD which is a French media that organizes many events !

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

3 places where I would bring a friend in Paris are: ARCHIVIST, one of my favorite shops in Paris. It’s an archive store where you can find rare pieces like old CDG, Issey Miyake, Prada, Stüssy and much more; FLEA Markets on Sunday, in Paris you have a lot of Flea markets every Sunday. You can find vintage clothes and interior furniture for cheap prices.And then LE PERCHOIR, a rooftop in the 11th arr with 360° view of Paris. One of the best places to have a drink in Summer.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I think Paris sorely missing pools or places to swim during summer

@fabienmontique

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is exciting; it has always been my favorite city. There is this influx of creatives from all over the world, breaking barriers and conceptions. I love the new energy flowing in the city

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

My Happy place on set, my apartment with my 3 fox terriers is a close second,  its quiet, gives me the space to think and dream about what I want to tell in my work

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

This is a hard one, I cannot give one as I feel these are propelling each other. I think there are really interesting things happening in music art and fashion in Paris at this moment

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Le Flandrin Restaurant , Soho House Paris,  Ritz Bar.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I think the city is missing more young creatives speaking louder and creating instead of waiting for the old guard to validate them.

@julieandre3000

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is full of contradictions but despite its flaws I couldn't live somewhere else !

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

The first district and Its Japantown. As I can't travel to Japan as much as I would like, at least I find there similar feelings to those of my favorite country, like a very varied and delicious offer of Japanese dishes.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

The gastronomy of course ! Covid had a very negative impact on the catering industry due to the forced closure and restrictions but since then a lot of new places have managed to emerge. Paris is a city that offers a variety of new restaurants that amazes me and a new generation of talented chefs as well, especially women.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

I would say Kanaga Records shop for the good vibrations and the picky selection of vinyl discs (not only because it's my lover's store), the Jacquemart-André Museumand its spectacular decoration ( a 19th century residence) and at last, the restaurant Le Brandevin (Paris 16th) for its traditional and family like welcoming, at the opposite of all the trendy spots you can find here.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

The sea! But as the City has promised to clean la Seine before The 2024 Olympic Games, the problem should be quickly solved. Definitely not the sea but not so bad.

@tomducarouge

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

As summer begins in Paris, it's a treat to be here.

Through my design routine I move from one area to another to visit workshops, studios and clients. Now I do everything by bike and the city is just delightful.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

In the shop of my best friends PTSF in Pigalle.

I go there almost every day, even for 5 minutes. The easy mood there relaxes me.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

Every corner of the city has an inspiring little café or boutique.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

I'd take him to The Archivist to buy a Porter measuring tape and then visit the permanent furniture collection at Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Finally, I'd like to invite him to eat some Linguine al Ragù at Ruggera, an Italian trattoria.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

We miss an outdoor swimming spot!

@_guillaumesalmon_

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

More than ever Paris is Burning, Kicking, Vibring : street, fashion, music, art, food, bar, society, politically…seems to be a huge bouillon.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

My sanctuary is my place in Ménilmontant. It's above the center, in the hill..seems to be somewhere else. My happiest place is at Parc de Prince in fall or winter, watching my team, singing "Allez Paris ! ».

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

Wow. What can I say…the ones built by 3537, by Soho House, by La Creole, by Pigalle, by Rec, by Oddity, by Schott, by Walk in Paris, by les 7 Salopards, by L’Encrerie, by BKRW, by Supervision, by Hotel Grand Amour,  so many….

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

First place will be Cravan, a amazing aesthetic radical cocktail place founded by Franck Audoux and (Moët Hennessy) and designed by Ramy Fischler ( 165 boulevard St-Germain), Bouche, a very nice and good restaurant for the pleasure of the mouth (Bouche), the Swedish breakfast of LINNEA LUND, a conscious cashmere brand, every thursday morning place Furstemberg…and since colette closed I am sorry to say there is no interesting store, mixing crowds and microcosms being able to talk to different generations. It’s sad somehow...

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

The sea of Brittany.

@raphderay

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris will always be quite dirty, crazy and busy… but I honestly feel like Paris is at its peak in terms of vibes and attractiveness. I’ve never experienced seeing that many foreigners in town and it sometimes feels like every creative from around the world, and no matter the industry, is moving here.

There is a sense of tranquility to this city, life is easy, the creative scene is purely amazing, you get to experience the nicest food and wine, prices are still (relatively) cheap for an international capital etc… I couldn’t wish to be anywhere else right now.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

I am a big fan of design and architecture so I’d definitely say Galerie Patrick Seguin. It’s a small space located in the 11th that displays furnitures designed by Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé and Le Corbusier. They honestly have the most amazing collection and it changes every couple months. It is designed like a house so I get to imagine that I live there and forget about everything else.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

I do think that all the creative scenes are buzzing in Paris right now but I would say that Fashion is probably the most interesting. It somehow has the advantage of being closely connected to all the other creative industries and as I’m working in it I often tend to promote my own agenda.

In my opinion Paris is the number one destination for Fashion and it keeps on attracting talented professionals from all over the world.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

I’d start off with a quick tour of Galerie Patrick Seguin and then go grab dinner at YARD, one of my favorite restaurants in Paris. They serve the most amazing food and have a great selection of natural wines. It’s in a nice up and coming neighborhood, a bit far away from what we would call city center but it’s totally worth it. The menu changes quite often and matches the seasons so my only recommendation would be to try a bit of everything and if they have their Caramelized Onion Tarte Tatin don’t miss it!  It’s also a great option if you’re only looking to sip some wine.

Then I would end the night by grabbing cocktails at FREQUENCES, a cool Japanese inspired listening bar that displays records and has live DJ sessions on the weekend. My go-to cocktail there is an Americano-Japonais but trust me each one of them is amazing! Also, those 3 places are a short walking distance from each other so that would also be a great option for a date or a night out with friends ;)

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I don’t think Paris is missing anything in particular but I think there is some space left in the Vintage Fashion industry, especially for Men.

Considering what you can find in New York, London or even Stockholm, I find the offer to be ridiculously low and not very qualitative. There have been a lot of improvements in the recent years with dozens of new shops/pop-ups and online boutiques but the focus is most of the time on womenswear.

@gabrifromcapri

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is always Paris.A hub of creativity and expression mixed with heritage, tradition and a good dose of attitude.It is probably the city in Europe (maybe even the world) that creates the most impact on today’s culture, especially in fashion. This is of course due to the big brands based here, but even more thanks to its energy and constant change.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

This is surprisingly a hard question.Living here for almost 11 years you’d think I do have a favorite spot, but since Paris is in this constant search for « the new cool » many places open and close (or just completely change) within very short times. One of my favorite spots was Hotel Bourbon, the hotel-themed club in the 10th arrondissement, ex Pompom (for those who remember). But since covid it got shut down for a couple of years, then reopened but completely changed and recently shut down again.Generally I love the 10ème, and especially its Faubourg Saint Denis neighborhood, because it is just the opposite of Emily’s Paris but so representative of (my) real Paris: a melting pot of cultures filled with beauty and dirtiness, luxury and poverty, work and nightlife.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

One of the most interesting creative projects of the past year in Paris has been 3537. The soon-to-be Dover Street Market Paris has hosted (as part of their agreement with the city) a different exhibition or event almost every week. From big brands and established organizations, to underground collectives and unknown artists, it seemed like almost anyone could have a chance of exhibiting and having their work seen. I would go by every weekend to check what’s new. Sometimes the work was just amazing and sometimes quite bad, but it was always exciting to discover.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Hotel Grand Amour for drinks (one of the very few places to make a decent Negroni)

Kodawari and Waly-Fay for food (sorry, not a huge fan of French cuisine)

Musée du Quai Branly (for the building and often interesting temporary exhibitions)

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

The sea. And usually the sun, but not today

@lucaimbimbo

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is exciting. There is no other city (in Europe at least) with the same energy.

I used to live “a bit” all over the world, always looking for my place.

I found it in Paris. Paris is the perfect balance between lifestyle, work, and people.

You can easily exchange your ideas pushing your creativity to imagine your future (not that common thing today). Paris is a compromise that doesn’t have a compromise.

If you work in fashion you have to be in Paris.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

Fondation Cartier and Musée Carnavalet are my sanctuary.

I love to experience art in its different forms, getting lost in history and celebrating the contemporary scene. It’s the metaphor of my relationship with the City, and with myself.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

There is a new ferment in all the fields (mainly after the COVID19 situation).

It's something that envelops you, literally. Design is interesting. Cinema and music are having a new input, after a few lacklustre years. But fashion is the most disruptive one, definitely. Fashion is a catalyst of attention and an engine of attraction for talented young people capable of giving constant impetus to the sector. It’s very unique.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Le Collier de la Reine or Hôtel National Des Arts et Métiers (the rooftop) for drinks.

OJII for foood.

La Mongolfière for sport.

Small bookshops in the heart of Marais for shopping.

I said four, sorry.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

What is absolutely missing is a fashion nightclub, something as iconic as the pitied Petit Palace.

@2speed_biking

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is moving beyond traditional conventions, and rather embraces a kind of creativity-led entrepreneurial mindset. We feel that Paris is increasingly fuelled by a creative energy (a bit similar to what happened in cities like London before), especially driven by multi-faceted individuals who rather define themselves through their multiple projects — such as independent book/magazine launches, podcasts development, events, art projects, and more. In this bubbling creative atmosphere, inspirations are more and more rooted in the richness of the Paris-based diasporas, with more light being shed on this cultural pluralism.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

Any cafe terrace with friends or a good book. Or at Apollo sporting club for a boxing session.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

We get the impression that more and more people are taking the plunge and realizing their own projects, which is feeding into contemporary Parisian culture.

- For example Argentik is a Parisian analogue film collective and media founded by Victor, Arthur and Clement. They are promoting subcultures through film photography in a very cool way.

- Very Disco, recently launched by Maÿlis Yamba is a new project aiming to merge house and hip hop music through upcoming events and parties in Paris.

- How To Make Babies podcast founded and produced by Diane Mendoza explores and documents identity construction through music culture.

- On the fashion scene, young designer Christian-Trésor, who has been recently featured as an emerging talent at La Villette art gallery, questions traditionally-masculine uniforms and menswear at large.

- We are also really into emerging creatives’ work we’ve featured in 2 SPEED BIKING Vol.1 such as Marius Perraud’s incredible silver-based jewelry, or Clara Ziegler’s talented styling.

Whether in design, photography, music and arts at large, there are definitely new dynamics shaping Paris.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

1) Chapelle XIV in the 18th arrondissement is an art gallery + a record store, definitely worth a visit.

2) Saison in the 11th arrondissement, the most beautiful floral shop.

3) Yvon Lambert bookstore for its highly executed curation of books and magazines, where you can find our book 2 SPEED BIKING Vol.1, offering page after page a cultural perspective on motorcycling.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

Maybe a more homogeneous spread of creative hubs across the city (since they are mostly currently centered around only a few areas). But we are not 100% convinced of this answer.

@agathemougin

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

I feel that Paris is full of really strong energies. The youth are really active and they know what they want. I love to see Paris alive.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

It's riding on my motorcycle. Even though I grew up here in Paris, I'm still amazed by the beauty of the city.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

I believe there isn't just one, but many creative scenes in Paris. There are a lot of communities with a strong sense of identity with a really creative impact.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Ristoranti, Abri Soba e Haikara

Bar, Le Saint Gervais

Club, Carbone, Rex e Silencio, dove tengo il mio party La Cuenta Por Favor una volta al mese.

Negozi, BRUT e OfrFolderol, Bistrot Tontine, Doki Doki, Bambino, Waly Fay, Le Syndicat, Little Red Door, La Chope des Artistes, The Next Door, The Broken Arm, Tom Greyhound.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I feel that it's super hard for small clubs to survive because their neighbors complain a lot about the noise and the restrictions are very limiting. The sound is so important, I think they should get some help from the state to become soundproof, as they do in Berlin for example.

@chilliams23

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

I feel Paris is way more cosmopolitan than it used to be. I remember coming to Paris for the first time 12 years ago. I was in the taxi and not a lot of drivers spoke english.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

One of my favorite spots is definitely Marché des enfants rouge as I live very close from there and I am not a good cook. So I always go there and have my meals. I became very close with the family who owns this Moroccan spot there so sometimes see preps me some meals for throughout the day.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

Definitely the music & fashion scene. Paris is the cultural hub at the moment for many reasons. A big one for me is that it takes a lot of inspiration from its subcultures when it comes to fashion. But what I love most, from what I observe right now, is the intersection between groups like 99ginger for example, mixing it up with other creatives & artists from all over the world which makes Paris a very interesting place for music as well. Fashion takes a lot from music and vice versa.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Really depends on which friend it is as I know a lot of people from different industries. That's the beauty about Paris. It is so diverse that I can take friends to so many different places. But when it comes to bars, restaurants & stores I would go for:

Folderol, Bistrot Tontine, Doki Doki, Bambino, Waly Fay, Le Syndicat, Little Red Door, La Chope des Artistes, The Next Door, The Broken Arm, Tom Greyhound.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

Cleanliness of public spaces & air conditioning. Paris is missing lots of things, but that’s part of what makes it uniquely Paris- it’s not trying to be everything, and doesn’t need to be. It’s what it is that is more important, and that’s why its influence is felt so far beyond the city, even in the things that are missing in Paris. That’s the magic of the city that’s hard to replicate anywhere.

@sakhobellion

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is very exciting on many levels. There’s a new generation that is taking over the city in fashion, art, food and drinks, architecture, music, cinema…there’s something very interesting to do everyday. I’m totally in love with Paris

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

My happy place will always be at home, drinking my Moroccan mint tea. That’s when I switch off a little and take a little moment for myself. It’s almost a ritual.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

I think it’s the food and drinks industry that’s the most creative scene right now. Because it’s not only about the food and drinks when you go to a restaurant or bar in Paris. It’s also an experience well curated, from the music, architecture, the crowd, the concept. I’m thinking of Folderol, a perfect place where it’s about ice cream and wine and other nice original hybrid places. I believe this industry will be a new thing that will also enter the fashion world more and more. One of our best ambassadors in the food scene in Paris that shakes the capital with great ideas is Julien Pham. Top Man, very inspiring and very humble.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

I would have lunch to Racines restaurant founded by my great friend Simone Tondo, a genius elegant man with a beautiful heart. This restaurant is a must. One of the best tables in Paris. The food is delicious and the wine divine. I would bring my friend to Soho House, chill in the poolside then have a nice dinner then go to the cabaret downstairs where there’s always a great showcase, interesting panel talk or a nice movie to watch. My other great friend Paul, the head of the house here is the essence of what Paris is right now. And the whole staff is fantastic. I would bring my friend to the concept store One Block Down, great selection of streetwear and books. Edgy brands and innovative collaboration. The team is super cool with great taste.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I think what’s missing in Paris is human warmth like in Italy,  Japanese discipline, and a little bit of colors ! We mostly all wear Black, and me first ! But yes, a little bit of color

@lauracarmenfernandez

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

We’re entering my favorite season, every single Parisian is out on the cafe terraces, in the warm sunshine. The city is full of life.

A very special year in Paris for me as I’m preparing my wedding here, happening in few weeks, it was very important to celebrate in our lovely city.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

My fitness practice is a very important part of my wellness in town, I try to dedicate several days of my

week to this precious moment.

On top of a very good class and coach, I’m very sensible to the design of the space, I feel relaxed. My favourite places right now are Reformation, Rasa Yoga and 21blanche.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

I love the new digital codes and influence on the global creative scene.

3D designs for unique environments, oscillating between the real and the virtual, pushing back the

boundaries of space, design and architecture, which brings disruptive and unique projects with the

discovery of amazing personalities and design.

I like to see how social media and the digital area propose, unique project designed to highlight how

architecture, design and digital art can coexist.

The 3.0 creative process offers unlimited creative freedom. Nothing is impossible and there's

nothing to limit design concepts. It's a kind of playground for designers.

I like Charlotte Taylor, Joe Mortell, André Jacob, Zyva Studio, Harry Nuriev...

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Do an early morning run at Palais Royal and Jardin des Tuileries

Ogata for a tea time experience

Visit Dowtown plus exhibitions and new furniture arrival

Ojii Perronnet for a somptious dinner

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

There is no other place such as my lovely Paris; I love my city for this uniqueness and lifestyle

I would keep it forever

@yanisdupleix

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

It's really good because the sun came back after a looong winter. I think June and July are the best months to fully enjoy Paris.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

I really love to walk by the river, especially next to Ile St Louis. In the daytime tourists and lovers are going there to chill and you can always see cute things happening. It inspires me a lot. And in the evening you can go there to have a drink with friends, and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets ever.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

I'm going a lot to painting exhibitions these days and I'm impressed by the Parisian scene. Guys like Etienne Quesnay and Jakman to name a few are doing really impressive things !

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Le St Gervais is a really cute little bar in Le Marais, where a lot of artists are hanging so it's the perfect place to meet musicians, photographers or designers.

Le collier de la reine is one of my favorite restaurant in here, honestly i could eat there everyday. My favourites are the eggs with caviar but I'll let you discover the whole menu by yourself ! (they also have a really insane wine selection)

I really love all the vintage stores in Paris but i think episode and Freep star are really the best, u can find gems there !

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

A good night club where u can go regardless of the DJ. We had a place called le petit palace and it was really "the rendez vous" of all the artistic people. It closed 2 year ago sadly and nothing really replaced it.

The clubbing scene in Paris is not crazy nowadays because of laws etc and covid didnt help of course. So yeah, I think we definitely need a new club in paris.

@kolamparis

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

It's hot, very hot with summer approaching, but also with the arrival of PFW.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

I would say the heights of Montmartre with a soothing and calm view of the city. It feels like a hidden part of Paris where everything is quieter. I live nearby, so it's the best way to unwind.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

I don't think there's a particular scene, but I find that there are numerous emerging talents with incredibly original projects in fashion, gastronomy, and art. If I had to mention some places, I would say Union Jeunesse International or 3537.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

For a bar, I would suggest Chez Martin, for a store: Archivist Store, which offers high-quality vintage clothing, and Kolam as a restaurant (because I have to).

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

Nature, especially the sea.

@selmakacisebbagh

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is living her best life ahaha that time of the year, is almost like a watered down version of Paris, everything seems amazing and it’s really hard to not get amazed by the beauty of the city and her energy.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

It’s a very unexpected choice maybe ?  in a way. But there’s a dog park in the Marais, a cute little garden, very Parisian, where somehow no one respects the «  dogs on leash » rules.

Everyday there are always a lot of dogs playing, running around, and having fun. That’s my happy place. We grab coffee and pastries in front of the Swedish Institute ( cultural center ) and go sit on the bench at this park with friends, surrounded by dogs, and that’s very therapeutic.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

19M is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now, in my opinion. 19 like the arrondissement in which the building is located, at Porte d'Aubervilliers. I like this area a lot, and especially as I’m from the 20th, and those areas aren’t the ones you think about when you say : Paris.

la Galerie du 19M is a massive building : a  multidisciplinary space open to the public that highlights Craftsmanship, different creative scenes etc. In an equal way

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Martin Boire et Manger - my favorite restaurant in Paris. If I ever have a friend in town, I will always go there. But I could eat there everyday as well.

Delicatessen - you can eat and drink natural wine. It’s very nice and cute,

Broken Arm /: DreamingMan coffee shop : Broken arm is one of my favorite shops in town, and DreamingMan has a little coffee shop on the main floor next to the bookshop, and provides great coffee and snacks.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I think Paris would be the best place in the world if you could actually swim there like in Copenhagen, or Stockholm. Then Paris would be unmatched.

@nodaleto

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Warm and beautiful. I absolutely love Paris in the summer - I am always trying to catch the sun throughout the year.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

Scarlab - nothing feels as good as an infrared sauna session to relax after a busy day at work.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

The creative scene is not specific to a certain neighbourhood in Paris in my opinion - everyone is creative in their own respective worlds and that's what makes Paris as a whole so rich and interesting. It is more about individuals - just follow the people who inspire you!

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Ojii for the Best Japanese Food.

Marché aux Puces Saint Ouen for vintage shopping.

Cloche - a new restaurant by one of my best friends Arthur.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

A NODALETO Pop-Up store for sure. But also, a place where I can have pancakes for dinner.

@laurentsegretier

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is bright and sunny, best time of the year

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

My happy place is the Château de Vincennes where I spend half my days with Fernand, my dog who is also my best friend.

My second favorite place is the Musée de La bourse aka the Pinault Collection where I spend the rest of my time checking artworks, art history classes and various talk

Generally speaking, my happiest place is my electric bike: The CAKE Makka which makes me free as a bird in Paris, the mobility is key for my art practice and I feel like I am back to my homeland town island:  Marie Galante, where I go every summer ! Riding in Paris with the sun beaming and staring at the incredible landscape and architecture is priceless :)

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

Personally I am impressed by the music scene in Paris. I am involved in the sense that I help young and emerging artists with their image. From styling to artwork cover and stage designs. They call me Uncle which said it all

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Here are my 3 favorite spots to eat and drink :

Paperboy Paris for breakfast, Viahe Caphe coffee shop for coffee, brasserie Boffinger for dîner.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I miss more fun and green dog parks in Paris, space where Fernand could meet and play with his canine friends.

@mylordandxavier

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

It's great! We (Parisians) love to complain about the city but we are well served in terms of culture, food and fashion.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

My sanctuary will always be my house, but my happy place would be the Palais de Tokyo. It is a bit strange but I have always loved wondering there since I'm a teen, outside of the art, I just feel it is an amazing building.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

In full honesty, I feel it is quite hard to mention specific interesting creative scenes without having to do your research. Also Paris is quite eclectic in terms of style, but whenever I want to discover something new, I usually check what is happening at a few places such as 3537, La Gaîté Lyrique, Le Centquatre and Le Hasard Ludique.

Of course there are a lot of galeries and small independent collectives organising artistic events all year long, for example the 229 Lab.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

I guess I would try to look at three drastically different places and locations to give a broad view on Paris. We would probably go for an amazing dinner at Majcha followed by drinks as Bisou. and then finish the night at Silencio.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

Paris is missing more cultural/social places. I feel that since the closing of Colette, there has been no real space of cultural hangout in the industry outside of 3537, but once again this place is not here forever. Maybe I am just not searching hard enough for these places or maybe they are not being advertised enough.

@wolfy___________

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

Paris is slowly getting into fall and winter. Time to do layering or get into our new season outfits again. Streets are empty way earlier than two months ago. It’s still Paris though. Life goes on.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

I love going to Waly Fay restaurant late at night especially when it’s not Fashion week and it’s not crowded. Food tastes almost as good as mum’s cuisine.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

I feel like more than ever everyone is really focused on presenting his vision in the best way possible and moving as a group. I will always say my friends and all the creative people around me are the most interesting scene especially because they are inspiring in so many different disciplines.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Definitely they need to visit Tashen book / 0fr store by the morning, shopping at Palace Callas in le Marais, then hit Laura Todd for the greatest cookies of all times and have dinner at Waly fay eventually.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

I believe Paris was missing nss but now you guys are here.

@cuhnja

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

More open I would say. I feel there is more of a sense of community and a lot more foreigners, people are less afraid of language barriers and parisian attitude. 6 years ago when I just moved here, I felt it was a lot harder to fit in this very French society.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

My home, Paris is a hectic city and I need to find refuge from it when needed.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

Definitely the food and design scene, so many talented and charismatic people.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

Café du coin, Lao Siam, Le Maquis

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

Nature and parks or at least easy access to nature in suburbs, lakes, forests.

@leotomazello

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

I am Léo Tomasello, I was born in Paris and I am 29 years old. My favorite places in Paris are the vintage clothing boutiques, thrift stores, markets and flea markets! I love it, looking for old objects is my passion! Whether it's clothing, furniture or even small everyday objects! I waste a lot of time searching and I love it! Finding a beautiful vintage item is the best feeling!

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

Paris is a superb city for meeting people etc… My favorite places are @lepicerie_ on Instagram, a vintage store that I launched a few years ago!

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

For me the best clothing store is @thenextdoor, the selection is the best in Paris in my opinion.

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

In Paris we also eat there Superbly! I recommend the cuisine of my friend @freddyskitchen, the cuisine he offers is just sublime! But if I have to choose a restaurant for myself, the best fried chicken in Paris is at Gumbo Yaya for sure 10000%.

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

For me, Paris is a fairly complete city where there is ultimately no shortage of great things! However, a permanent @lepicerie_ store is the next step! Have a real vintage/archive store in Paris!

@clakovi

--01 How is Paris nowadays?

I just moved to this city but i’m living my best life hahaha. Paris is cool, fun, and fresh. There’s so many things to do and you feel the energy of this city all the time in the streets. I would love to stay for long, Paris has my heart.

--02 Where is your happy place/sanctuary in Paris and why?

My sanctuary is my apartment !! and all the little parks in Le Marais just to sit down and chill a bit enjoying the greens in a bench while you’re still in the middle of the city. Then when they close at 7 grabbing a drink with my friends in our favorite wine bars or when the weather is good in La Seine or Canal St Martin !! Also love just biking everywhere, the city is beautiful and makes you happy just looking at it.

--03 What do you think is the most interesting creative scene in the city right now?

The fashion and arts scene is huge in Paris ! If you’re in that scene too you’re constantly stimulated and inspired by what the city has to offer. I would recommend checking all the temporal art exhibitions not only the typical museums !! There’s always something going on and there are galleries everywhere, so stroll around!

--04 What are 3 places in Paris (bars, clubs, restaurants, stores...) you would bring a friend visiting you to?

I would bring a friend for a vintage shopping tour like to Paris Paris, Gaijin Paris, The Room… all the shops around Le Marais and going to the flea markets too ! Yvon Lambert, Bonjour Jacob, OFR are musts too. Best places to buy books and magazines. and 100% would obligate everyone to eat asian food in Paris ! It's so good here. I love the donburis and currys in Pontochoux and the chinese restaurants around Palais Garnier Also Bambino, Lolo Cave à manger, Déviant, Chez Jeannete, Pamela, Silencio Club…

--05 What is something you believe Paris is currently missing?

More sun and less cold weather (I’m Spanish so it was obvious). I’m used to it but having the river in the middle of the city without the possibility to jump and swim just kills me.
