Anderlecht dedicates a jersey to the club's greatest legend A project to celebrate Paul Van Himst's 80th birthday

Telling new generations about their history is one of the great objectives of clubs. In addition to victories, clubs can remember the legends who have worn their colours and jerseys throughout history, and that is exactly what Anderlecht has done with its latest project, a jersey celebrating the 80th birthday of Paul Van Himst, considered the greatest footballer in the history of the Belgian team. Born on 2 October in 1943, Van Himst is the youngest footballer to have made his debut in the Anderlecht jersey, since which time he has won 8 titles and 4 Belgian Cups, to which a championship and a UEFA Cup as a coach are added. The elegance of Paul Van Himst's game is represented in the new jersey, made by Joma by replicating the kits worn during the 1960s and 1970s by the footballer.

The retro taste, the long sleeves and the layout of the crest hark back to the time when Van Himst was compared to the great footballers of the era such as Pele and Crujiff, so much so that he finished fourth in the 1965 Golden Ball standings. The four golden shoes are just one of the many demonstrations of a legendary career, which still inspires the club and the fans, and which Van Himst has never betrayed, despite the many courtships from Real Madrid, who in those years had identified him as the successor to Di Stefano and Puskás. The former striker's long career also included a part in the famous 1981 film 'Victory', alongside film stars such as Sylvester Stallone and Michael Caine, and now a celebratory jersey.

The kit is available at the official Anderlecht website.
