Admiral, England's oldest sports brand, and Urban Pitch have teamed up to create an exclusive new design for one of England's most iconic jerseys from the 1982 World Cup in Spain. The kit has been created with the help of CFK Designs, one of the best known designers in the strange and increasingly influential concept kit creative movement. The jersey has the unmistakable DNA of the '82 jersey but differs in some details, first of all the colours. If there is one particular element that all English people remember from that jersey it is definitely the red and blue stripes, present for the first and only time in the English national team jersey. CFK Designs have succeeded in the arduous task of making a historical model modern, with a pink and gold gradient pattern that recalls those two iconic stripes that characterised the original jersey. The jersey is also deliberately linked to the world of music, with the soundwave graphic dominating the centre, another small difference to the original as in the 1980s it was not permitted to have a sponsor on the jersey.

To think that the 1982 shirt was one of the most controversial at first, Barry Davies, BBC commentator, said on the day of the debut: "why the England shirt should have the colours of the Union Jack remains a mystery". But it wasn't just the choice of colours that turned his nose up at, it was also the contract with the English federation, worth around one million, one of the first sports sponsorship deals of the time. After several years, however, the phrase of Bert Patrick, owner of the Leicester brand, has become reality: "England will be the best dressed national football team in the world", has proved to be correct. That shirt, chosen after 60 sketches created by a team of four people in 12 weeks of work, has entered the hearts of the fans after the protests received. And today Admiral and Urban Pitch are taking us back in time with a design that recalls the original without looking like an exact copy.
