The Super Bowl LV trophy produced by Tiffany & Co. The new LVMH brand has unveiled the long process of making the Vince Lombardi Trophy

Traditions in the world of sport are a fundamental part and they are also in football. One of the oldest concerns the trophy given to the Super Bowl winning team, dedicated to the historic Packers coach Vince Lombardi and produced in the laboratories of Tiffany & Co.

The victory symbol represents a 56cm 2.2kg sterling silver football in the kick off position. The peculiarity of the trophy is that, unlike many other sports that receive a replica of the same, it remains with the winning team. Tiffany, therefore, has been producing the $ 25,000 prize every year since 1967. The highest number of trophies belong to the Boston New England and Pittsburgh Steelers (6), followed by the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers (5). The player who has the most, however, is the legend Tom Brady with 6.

The process lasts 4 months and the Rhode Island silversmiths have been using the same technique since 1967 with a long process of sculpture, followed by that of welding, spinning, polishing and finally a part of handwork (like the laces on the ball ). The award designed by former Tiffany vice president Oscar Riedener - and never changed in terms of design - bears the league logo, the words "Vince Lombardi Trophy" and the two teams facing each other every year. It will not be the acquisition by LVMH that will change the traditions of American sport.
