What will the sneaker of the future look like? While the sneaker game has experienced unimaginable growth in recent years, it has certainly put aside a necessary and dutiful reflection on its future, trying to imagine a revolution in which aesthetics and sustainability seem to be the two key words for a change that is as compulsory as ever. The sneaker is part of our everyday life and for this very reason, like many of the objects that surround us, it needs to change and progress. For this reason, on the occasion of the digital cover n.09, nss magazine asked a group of creators and footwear designers to imagine the sneakers of the future, finding the right balance between aesthetics, design and materials.

This is a difficult challenge that has to meet and take into account the enormous social and cultural value that trainers have assumed over the years. While on one hand they have become part of our daily lives, for many they are a cult, a passion, but above all an object full of nostalgia and links with the past. It is also for this reason that, in the challenge of imagining the future, the sneaker game has all too often put ambition aside, leaning on the certainties of the past without ever having the courage to use it as a springboard towards tomorrow. If figures like Tinker Hatfield and Steven Smith have taught us anything though, it is that sneaker as we know them today would not exist without research and ambition. We wouldn't have Nike's Air cushions or adidas' boost, but above all we wouldn't have sneakers as we know them. An awareness that leads us to ask ourselves: what will the sneakers of the future be like?
