Marni and Dingyun Zhang's mohair down collection

Presented in Tokyo at the Marni FW23 fashion show, designer Dingyun Zhang's down jackets are now available in the Milanese brand's boutiques, a capsule that further explores the link between art and fashion established over the years by the maison. The inspirations behind the outerwear designed by Zhang are the study of primary colours and shapes, displayed in this capsule through oversized silhouettes and polka dot and geometric patterns. Combining unconventional textures with a poetic aesthetic, Zhang has chosen mohair, one of the Marni's collections key materials, to create a line of warm, soft down jackets that evoke a feeling of comfort and calm from the first glance.

The campaign depicting the new Marni Dingyun Zhang down jackets documents a sense of vulnerability in an essentially intimate context, personified in the shots of US actor Jim Goldberg. Handmade sketches and a minimalist nature create a backdrop of stark contrast to the looks, which between the bright red and geometric prints stand out boldly from the images. Marni let Zhang's sartorial expertise shine through in these designs, giving ample room for his passion for intricate textures and the pursuit of dynamism in fashion to shine through.
