Martine Rose is the new creative director of Balenciaga The rumours confirmed just hours after Pierpaolo Piccioli's departure
«It is a true privilege to be appointed Creative Director of Balenciaga, a House with an extraordinary heritage and a bold creative spirit. Before me, Balenciaga was shaped by exceptional creative talents. I am determined to honour this legacy and I look forward to writing the next chapter of this rich and wonderful story.» With these words, Martine Rose inaugurated her tenure as Creative Director of Balenciaga, just hours after Pierpaolo Piccioli departed from the role.
Rose lives and works in Paris and will officially take up the position on 16 November. The announcement is also part of the broader revitalisation strategy for the brands within the Kering group, championed by CEO Luca de Meo. «Balenciaga has always been a House defined by radical creativity, capable of challenging conventions and redefining the boundaries of fashion. Martine Rose perfectly embodies this spirit through a vision that is fresh, bold and deeply contemporary. Her connection with new generations and her innate understanding of culture bring a new dimension to the House. Her appointment reflects our ambition to keep Balenciaga at the forefront of innovation, creativity and culture.», De Meo commented.
Since 2007, the year she founded the brand bearing her name, Martine Rose has developed an aesthetic deeply rooted in music and the diverse expressions of subcultures. Her work is distinguished by its ability to subvert traditional codes of dress, challenging the conventions surrounding fashion and the representation of masculinity. The foundations of her creative research lie above all in the London cultural scene, with collections that explore themes such as gender, individuality and social belonging.
