"Corri o muori" la spy comedy leggera da vedere su Prime Hannah Waddingham e Octavia Spencer ci portano con loro in indagini, fughe e una lunga amicizia

It could have been yet another forgettable comedy, but Run or Die on Prime Video has some serious bite. The leads are Hannah Waddingham, who became widely known for Ted Lasso, alongside Octavia Spencer of The Help and Ma. The creator is Tessa Coates, but a glance behind the scenes reveals names like Andy and Barbara Muschietti and Peyton Reed that should immediately prick up your ears.

The first two a director and producer siblings duo  brought Stephen King's modern It to the screen and extended it into television with the prequel Welcome to Derry. The second is the man who took Ant-Man's fate to heart in the MCU, directing all three stand-alone chapters with Paul Rudd, and who also helmed some excellent comedies such as Bring It On and Down with Love. All the ingredients were there, and despite the series' obvious lightness, the result couldn't be more enjoyable.

Twenty Years of Lies

The story revolves around a spy thriller in which one of two best friends is an assassin (Waddingham) and the other finds out nearly twenty years after they first met (Spencer). Unlike other works in the genre, while never losing its investigative/action edge, Run or Die leans heavily on the relationships we build throughout our lives.

It asks, above all, how much truth there really is in our connections with other people. For this reason, the greatest challenge for the professional hitwoman isn't killing some arms dealer or pulling off an undercover heist, but having to face the truth alongside the most important person in her life  someone who will discover she barely knows her at all.

The Masks We Wear

The duo of Waddingham and Spencer succeeds in conveying the sense of a deep friendship that, at the moment of revelation, calls into question everything the two protagonists have shared up to that point. Run or Die is therefore not merely a spy comedy it doesn't simply jet around the world having fun with all the quirky gadgets deployed along the way.

There's even a shoe shop where the characters go to stock up on weapons and forged documents, recalling the tailor's in that pop-culture classic Kingsman. But the show becomes a self-reflection on who we are, how we present ourselves to others, and what reasons we might have for lying  or not to the people we love.

The series thus becomes an exploration of identity itself of what it means to "be" when you are never quite the same person, and of how easy it is to deceive in order to survive. It asks how much the masks we wear to fool others are really worth, even when all we want is to be seen for exactly who we are.

Where Our Loyalty Lies

But this is also where the show digs even deeper: because, in the end, who are we really? And, beyond that, is it truly possible to exist without ever having been loved, or having loved in return? The bond between the two leads offers a glimpse into emotion that never loses sight of the sheer lightheartedness that comedy demands. The laughs are balanced against the emotional moments, and the same holds true for the action.

Run or Die becomes a swift reminder of what it means to be friends, of where one's loyalty truly lies, and of why it's always better to have a trusted person watching your back. Not only because they might help you out with that little problem you have with the Albanian mafia  as in the series but because surviving without one would simply be impossible.
