Nostalgia for the Dutch Golden Age comes to an end in Amsterdam

Ajax and adidas take us back to the 1970s with a new collection Nostalgia for the Dutch Golden Age comes to an end in Amsterdam

After presenting a collection with Gucci that pays homage to the archives of the two brands, adidas decided to go back in time once again with Ajax. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of their three consecutive European Cup victories (1971, 1972 and 1973), adidas today launched an Originals collection inspired by the 1970s Lancers. The legendary Ajax team of the 1970s began their march to greatness with a revolutionary style of football that, five decades later, still influences the sport and has remained in the memory of all fans. And with the intention of drawing inspiration from the club's enduring legacy, the collection created by the German brand winks at that historic era with references to old-fashioned design and details taken from the past.

But between a new Samba colour scheme, a tracksuit and a sweatshirt, the highlight is definitely the 'bring back' football shirt, in the iconic white-red-white colours, featuring an oversized version of Ajax's historic crest in the centre of the shirt. A jersey that evokes a unique charm and flavour, demonstrating how nostalgia is increasingly a recurring theme for clubs and their technical sponsors. In this case, however, the experiment was certainly successful, thanks to the class and elegance of the design and colours of the Dutch team, which for decades has not only distinguished itself for its revolutionary play but especially for its style. In short, even though this shirt will never see the pitch, adidas and Ajax have succeeded in immersing us in that golden era, making us relive the era of the tulips when Gerrie Mühren, Johnny Rep, Ruud Krol, Velibor Vasović and, of course, the favourite son of Dutch football, Johan Cruyff were unrivalled on the pitch.

The new collection is already available here.
