Christmas on football team jerseys Over the past few seasons, there have been several teams that have taken to the pitch with festive kits

Christmas is getting closer and closer, and as is now customary, football teams decide to dress up for this festive occasion. In addition to the classic Christmas jumpers, the jumpers with various Santas, snowmen and reindeer as the main motifs, the uniforms they wear on the pitch have also taken on Christmas themes over the years. And the clubs have not missed the opportunity even at this time when the championships are at a standstill to make way for the World Cup in Qatar. Napoli began by presenting and then wearing in the two friendly matches on Turkish soil against Antalyaspor and Crystal Palace the Christmas Edition uniform, complete with a reindeer puppet design on the front. It was then Cagliari's turn to continue in this tradition by showing the public the red Christmas pre-match jersey with a mouflon, as an emblem of the typical festive animal of the Sardinian mountains, in the central part. Over the last few seasons, however, there have been several teams that have appeared on the pitch with kits decked out for this special occasion.

Atalanta's Christmas tradition

The tradition of the jersey dedicated to Christmas by Atalanta dates back to 2010, when the team played in Serie B. In that season, president Antonio Percassi decided to start this custom, which was enriched year after year with different motifs but at the same time with common traits. From Erreà to Nike and the current technical sponsor Joma, one of the main features of Atalanta's Christmas Edition shirts is the club's coat of arms enclosed within a Christmas tree.

On other occasions, the bottom of the kit features the Bergamo skyline with a stylised fir tree in the centre of the city. The 2011 jersey signed Erreà is also particular, total black and with the figure of a Christmas tree that could be guessed thanks to the presence of white lights on the front of the jersey.

Cremonese the Christmas Jumper as a jersey

A deep-rooted Christmas tradition as far as Cremonese are concerned. Ever since the days of Lega Pro, the Lombard club has presented itself with a themed shirt during this period. In 2016, the grigiorosso club, together with sponsor Garman, took the field with a kit featuring a green Christmas tree on the right flank, complete with a comet star and decorations.

In recent seasons, however, Cremo has brought Christmas jumpers onto the pitch, transferring the motifs of the classic Christmas jumpers onto the shirts. This novelty came with the arrival of Acerbis as the club's technical sponsor from 2019. To highlight the 2021 kit with graphics featuring snowflakes, decorations and trees, recalling the warmth and spirit of Christmas.

Cagliari and Father Christmas' hat

In addition to this year's initiative with the aforementioned training shirt, Cagliari also decided to tie in with Christmas tradition in 2018 with a special kit. In the match against Genoa, in fact, Macron designed for the Sardinian team a special Christmas Edition uniform that differed little from the classic 1st shirt if it were not for a Father Christmas hat present 'on top' of the club's traditional logo.

Gold in the Chievo Verona Christmas Edition

The connection between Chievo Verona and Christmas is easy, as the club's former patron Campedelli was also the owner of Paluani, a company best known for its production of pandoro. In the 2012 season, the Gialloblù went total-white with sponsors, logo and personalisation in gold; one of the typical Christmas colours.

The following year for the Christmas Edtion the gold in the inserts and lettering is back, but the uniform is entirely navy blue; a tribute to the uniforms of the Royal Navy, the navy of the British armed forces.

The Christmas spirit of Catanzaro

Christmas is also emphasised in the minor leagues, especially at Catanzaro, which on two occasions took the field with a Christmas Edition. In 2020 EYE designed a total-black jersey with a classic gold Christmas tree in the middle, between the shield and the logo of the technical sponsor, which was then worn against Juve Stabia. The following year, instead, against Vibonese, on the classic red jersey there appeared, in the same position as before, the writing 'Christmas Match' with lights and Christmas balls.
