Mexican national team might leave adidas

After 15 years there could be an end to a historic partnership

Mexican national team might leave adidas After 15 years there could be an end to a historic partnership

After surprising everyone with the two jerseys designed by adidas for the World Cup that were a resounding success, the Mexican national team might not renew with the German brand. In fact, the contract between the two parties expires at the end of this year, then after the long-awaited final of the first World Cup played in the winter, the possible renewal will or will not come, but at the moment it seems far away. Last time in fact the agreement was announced on 14 July 2014, the day after the 2014 World Cup final, which is why the historic partnership that has been going on for 15 years could continue. In reality, however, there are many reasons why it could continue.

Sales of Mexico's jerseys exceed those of the US in many American states, Soccer.com, the largest football retailer in the United States, has revealed. This year's away jersey has been so successful that it has sold out in most online and physical stores. The all-over pattern that distinguishes the graphics showing the snake body of Quetzalcoatl, one of the most important deities for the Mexican people, has won everyone over even though it has not yet made its debut in the ill-fated, for the time being, World Cup in Qatar. Another clue in favour of this partnership are the words of Ernesto Bruce, adidas' director of football for North America, who told Forbes in 2014 that the agreement with Mexico was one of the most important for the brand. Indeed, in anticipation of the next World Cup 2026 to be played in the USA and Mexico, in which the Herzogenaurach brand will have to counter the domestic dominance of its long-time rival Nike.
