Atletico Madrid's new jersey is a flop

Atletico Madrid's new jersey is a flop A design the fans never liked and the sales figures bear witness to that

It was already clear a few months ago, the comments of the fans did not bode well and in fact this was the case, the wavy stripes of Atletico Madrid's jersey do not please anyone. Nike, in fact, for the first time in the team's history, has distorted the stripes of Simeone's team, as happened last year with Inter and its snakeskin pattern, by applying wavy stripes inspired by the meanders of the river where the team's old stadium, the Vicente Calderón, used to be. A design ill-digested by the fans, and sales prove it, who have been clamouring since the first leaks for it to be changed in its entirety. According to El Confidencial, sales, according to club sources, have dropped by 40% compared to previous seasons, a more than predictable figure.

To remedy this situation, the swoosh has run for cover, announcing that next season it will be the fans who will choose the new shirt design. A veiled admission that confirms how much this jersey has divided environment and fans. In general, the jersey issue has always generated big problems at Atleti. The fans have protested about the new logo, especially last year when they started a petition to have it returned against Manchester for one of the most important matches of the season, thus continuing a battle that has been going on for a few years now. That is, since the Madrid club's management decided to update their logo in 2016, thus entering the now inevitable diatribe on whether or not a restyling should be carried out on their identity crest. That logo, with the bear and the cherry tree representing the city since the 13th century, was slightly stylised by also changing the position of the animal but never really convinced Atleti fans. Now, however, the focus has shifted to the jersey, but with peace of mind for the fans there is no turning back, the team will still play with this jersey despite the sales.
